BBM chat history deleted

So for some reason, BBM is deleting the chat history of a very important contact of mine. I need the chat history to remain there as the conversations have information I need. BBM doesn't delete the chat history of any of my other contacts, only this one contact.

Firstly, how do I stop it from deleting the chat history? And secondly, can I get the chat history back? I backup my phone regularly but I think the chat history is saved to the memory card.
 
You can choose in options to backup the history to device memory our memory card but unfortunately bbm doesn't keep the history for long. The history is saved in a folder called 'IM' under the contacts PIN in .csv file.

All you can do is manually backup the .csv files every few days.

Thing is with every single bbm contact I have, the chat history is still there, from the very first day we started chatting. But with this one contact, it keeps deleting the chat history so I only have the history from 2 weeks back now, when we've been chatting for over 3 months. And it is only happening with this contact :/
 
how often do you chat to that person?

Is it POSSIBLE that BBM only allows for a certain sized chat-file per contact?

Well if it does, then that could be the problem cos I chat to them everyday.

But looking through the chat history of some of my other contacts, I have 4 months worth of history, with about 20 conversations per month and yeah, they're all still there.

I just went back to the chat history of this contact that is being deleted, and more conversations have just been deleted :/ Had conversations from 14 June up until today, now it's from 30 June till today :/

This is extremely frustrating.
 
Have you told the other party that conversations are going to be backed up for quality control purposes :p

I would assume this particular contacts history is deleted due to size limit as other suggest

I'm sure I mentioned it at some point in time :p

I'll do some googling quick and see if there is a size limit.
 
have you spoken to the person today? If so then maybe that's why more got deleted.

So you mention other with 80 chat lines. How many chat lines have you got in the last 2 weeks for person X where you only have 2 weeks?

Just did some googling, turns out there is a size limit, of 147kb :/ Once the chat history file reaches that, it deletes some messages to reduce the size. The contact that is having the chat history deleted is on 147kb so yeah that's why :/

All my other contacts are under 147kb hence no history has been deleted yet.

Fail blackberry :/

Ouch! :(

you can't do anything about the lost data but you can back up in future.

I know of places that can recover pics etc from memory cards. Not sure about the cost but could be a possible way to retrieve the old data..

I too needed the chat history between myself and a contact (he was pestering me but he is out of my life now).

When I plugged my phone into the PC, I copied all the data off it manually and I found the chat history files somewhere amongst all the files. It had the chat history saved from the first day the guy and I started to talk if I remember correctly.

Try doing that and see if the entire chat history is saved in that file. I think BBM might only keep a portion of it for you to view but the rest is saved into a file. I did this when my phone had OS 5 though :/ so maybe it changed with OS 6.
 
I need urgent help. Legal reasons. I need to retrieve bbm chat messages, but i didnt even know there was a chat history option, so mine is disabled and also,the person deleted me as a contact. How can i retrieve them? It is very urgent, i can also get a letter from a lawyer stating that i need it.

Sorry this is not possible. Your service provider does not keep a record of your bbm history which can be saved and read later. RIM will under no circumstances make any information like that available either.
