BBM, BlackBerry apps coming to iOS?

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion wants to hire a software developer with deep experience building applications for Apple’s iPhone and iPad, according to a job posting on its LinkedIn page...

If anything, more choice the better. WhatsApp will come to iOS at some point (or this might make them move quicker) :).

160MB average usage be gone now...:D

Er whatsapp is on iOS already?
For the iPhone yes, but curiously not for other iOS devices like the iPad.

I'm sure there are quite a few BB users who don't want to install whatscrap on their BB so I can see the appeal of porting BBM to other platforms.

Because Whatsapp uses your phone number as an identifier? And many ipads don't have one?

Why do you say that?

Also...I think the reason why WhatsApp cant be used on Ipad is because it does not support GSM voice and SMS functionality..so you cant validate your number the first time whatsapp starts up?

EDIT: Sinbad beat me to it.

the only people who dont like whatsapp, are BB users. "i paid a premium to get my BBM, why should all you people be able to chat for free too!!!!"

Presumably they could have made it available to the sim enabled models?TBH I found it buggy and unreliable and that put me off it.

And watch the howls of outrage from wifi-only owners ;)

It actually would be pretty good if you could generate some kind of token on your phone that you could enter into the app on your non-phone-device which pairs the two.

BBM on any other device than a BlackBerry will kill RIM for good. BBM is the reason most of it's general client base owns a BB.

try using the email on any "iOS" device after having had a BB for a while, you will come running back to your BB very quick. Its in a different league. Assuming you use email for anything other than just fwd'ing spam...

I've had 3 different BBs. Got the first one back in 2003... and no, I am not running back to BB any time EVER.

You sure it isn't your 2G that is buggy? :p

Or, like iMessage, verify using either a cellphone number or an email address, simple...

I've never owned a BB but I find email on my iPhone seamless and an absolute pleasure to use.

Try using any other function beside e-mail on a BB and you'll come running back to your "iOS" device very quick.

I would also like to know. WhatsApp works so nicely on all platforms already. I for one would not have a need to have BBM on my Android and struggle again with PIN's etc. But perhaps there are people that would like this I guess.

The thing with RIM is that all communication is encrypted so goverment's etc can't see what you are doing. That is why most goverment officials overseas had BB's and also why some Asian countries threatened to block all RIM services (because they couldn't spy on it).

Ok. But I cant say I have anything to hide from our guavamint..so I am really not bothered by that. My WhatsApp messages are pretty mundane and boring so hulle kan maar kyk as hulle wil. :-) They will most likely just die of boredom.
