BBM for Android confirmed sometime in 2011

I would really like to know why you prefer whatsapp over BBM. I used it a while back, magically seemed to have contacts in my list that I forgot was in my phone book and it didn't seem to integrate with the rest of the Blackberry as well. However, it did allow cross-platform chatting which is sometimes more important than niceness.

WhatsApp is absolutely fantastic to use, can do everything BBM can do & with the latest update, they have fixed the "dead contact list". It now syncs properly with your phone's contact list.

The interface is fantastic, fast and a joy to use on a phone with a proper screen (read Android and Apple phones).

It's a perfect app, so why use anything else?

Whatsapp - Can you send music? Can you send media for free?

I find whatsapp a good SMS replacement tool, BBM is still a better chat application.

Both have per-message delivery/read indicators which is great and rules out many other chat applications.

Yes you can send anything on whatsapp.

WhatsApp doesn't have read notifications. Only delivered to server and delivered to device.

i don't know what your using, but with mine... if i send my girlfriend a message, it gets one tick for delivered... 2nd tick when she reads it.

+1. When I send 4cer's girlfriend a message, it gets one tick for delivered... 2nd tick when she reads it.

Exactly the same on mine. Maybe Dovi is using an older version, or not familiar with the app?

Oh, and you can send anything and everything with WhatsApp - music, video, documents, pics - the whole shebang.

Whatsapp = BBM in nearly every respect.

To be honest I don't care, since all my mates that have BB have whatsapp installed anyway (I use Android).

Whatsapp does not tell you when the message has been read.

What are those green checkmarks next to my messages?

We are glad you asked. These green checkmarks are actually very important since they function as message delivery acknowledgement indicators. Here is what they mean:

-
single.png
message successfully delivered to the server.

-
double.png
message succesfully delivered to the device of the chat partner. (note: this does not indicate that message was read, just that it was delivered)

i just sent a message from my Galaxy to my Blackberry.

It got one tick, waited a few seconds, BB vibrated... checked the galaxy, no second tick, opened it on the BB galaxy got the second tick. I think the FAQ needs updating, because it never used to be like this, but it has been more recently.
