BBM for Windows Phone gets a launch window

Probably 3 or 4 years too late. BBM is dead (Blackberry just don't realise it yet), it was killed by Whatsapp...

BBM & Wechat , 6 & 9 . Useless . I'd rather use Viber instead

could be useful for the people who still have friends/family that use BB handsets... but not sure how many will remain after they reach contract renewal date.
But maybe BB is still some way from dying. BB10 still winning some new, renewing customers.
but most of us prefer not to have too many of the same type of app.
would be better to make apps work together, let Whatsapp send to BBM and viceversa.

BB users all have Whatsapp installed. I agree with Dave123 a few years too late.

BBM is still a better IM than whatsapp or viber, you can't list an advantage of one that BBM can't trump.

Telegram let's you chat from a desktop app or even Web based and syncs across all devices.

Telegram only targets Android and iOS mobile devices. When BBM launches for WP I expect it will also be deployed for Windows 8 as MS is pushing for this universal apps concept with its developers.

WhatsApp+ let's you send uncompressed images and doesn't pixilate your profile picture.

Whqtsapp+? It's a profile picture I don't think you'd want to go full res with it. What do you mean by uncompressed? If a BBM contact sends you an image you can request a higher quality copy of it.

It's a modified version. There's tons of customizations and mods. Way better than original WhatsApp and BBM. One thing it has that BBM doesn't have... Themes.

So is this modified version available for iOS, WP, BlackBerry? Also does it support calling or voice chat?

Here's one that I bet BBM can't trump, every single contact I have has (or can have) Whatsapp. It is available for more handset platforms than BBM.

When BBM launched for Android I installed it and went through my contact list of users, not ONE of my contacts who used to have BBM still used it, they were all on Whatsapp though.

But I bet now at least ONE of your contacts uses BBM.

Actually not, a few added the app to either their iPhone or Android phone, but no-one has kept it. Most cite the fact it's easier to keep everyone on one app (being Whatsapp), some complained of battery drain and uninstalled very quickly.

I thought I had found a contact still using it but it turns out he sold the Blackberry and a complete stranger has the pin.

Valid points but from my experience everyone I socialize with uses BBM, maybe because they come from a Blackberry or its easier to add someone via barcode scanning.

I know Whatsapp on WP has been pulled from the store a couple of times so it will be interesting when BBM hits in July.
