With the current drive to get Samsung users to join BBM can anyone say whether one of the two message services uses less or more data than the other?

Thanks, Malcolm

I cant comment on the data usage across the different apps. I would guess that BBM uses slightly more because of its status updates.

On my iPhone I prefer using Whatsapp because the BBM app is still in its infancy; aka it sucks.

I think the data usage between the 2 apps is negligible enough over a month not to be a deciding factor, unless you have no bundle and pay R2/Meg or something crazy. Comes down to what you prefer.

Well data usage on on whatsapp for me rarely goes above 5mb per month and so far my BBM is at 12mb last month it went over 30mb and I only got 18 contacts

I installed BBM, sent ONE message and it's used 1.96MB

In the same period, I've sent and received countless messages and used 668KB

Just about to uninstall as I don't know anyone (including BlackBerry users) who doesn't use Whatsapp.

BBM is better but only on a Blackberry device. I say you should download both and see which uses more data (from the comments here, that's BBM).

whats-app has a really nice quick voice recording feature that is very nice on a blackberry device with BIS

Had BBM on my Sony for a bit, and both my data and battery drained quite a bit faster. BBM used anything from 2 to 4 times as much data as whatsapp did for whatever reason so I decided to remove it, haven't looked back since.

BBM for Android/iOS really is a bit pointless unless you absolutely must have encryption or actually enjoy wasting data...

It uninstalled really quickly once I realised I only have a handful of BBM contacts who are all on WhatsApp anyway. Now as a result, data use dropped 15% and battery life is also up a little.

I guess BBM will consume more data as it needs to update statuses in realtime and update picture changes of all the contacts. Prefer whatsapp as it feels much faster
