Hi Guys,

I need some help figuring out what route to continue in. I was working abroad for four years with the objective of
completing my UNISA Bcom FinMan degree but things didn't play out the way I wanted. Three semesters I registered for, UNISA didn't send my examination papers to the embassy which resulted in me not being able to write. I got so frustrated and basically gave up hope on completing it.

Now, I am back in SA and feel I need to complete any qualification just to secure my future. I am basically torn between CIMA and completing Bcom (which I am halfway through). UNISA is one frustrating mess and I have only heard good things about CIMA (noting that I would have to start CIMA at certificate level).

I don't currently need to work for someone as I have some projects going, but I would like to further my education.

Any assistance on job prospects and experience in the field would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

CIMA

It's so well run it actually made me want to study

Did you start cima at certificate level?
No had a Bcom Cost & Man Acc & post grad certificate. But if I could redo things I would have started CIMA asap maybe after the degree.

Well thats what I'm trying to figure out. Whether I should first do a degree/complete my current one, or just jump straight into CIMA.

I'd say it depends on how much time you have, your age etc.

I'm 28 years old. I work for myself normal trading hours so studying would be done in the morning, night and weekends

Would cima be valuable on its own without a degree? It would be a massive commitment, I would just like to make the best choice possible

Valuable to you or valuable to prospective employers? You seem to be doing this more for yourself than employment purposes?

Both ideally. I don't need to study now but if my business fails or I decide to move on, I would like there to be options. Furthermore, pleasing an employer would translate into being respected and rewarded for your output.

It can be done. I am in strategic level and only studied weekends and nights
