Business Day Financial Mail - you may remember them from the paywall they put up around their website - you know, to makes lots of money. It was criticised back then (a mere few months ago) as being unsustainable and a possible long term threat to the success of the business by us idiots over here at MyBB.

Wow - we were so wrong. They seem to be thriving.
 
Okay GreGorGy, I admit, I am also one of the guilty idiots who said the paywall would not succeed.

Wow, maybe they making billions from their paywall and the directors decided to keep all of it to themselves :)

On a more serious note, I am willing to spend a lot of money on this bet:

- Revenue from registered users is not noticeable.
- Advertising revenue down by probably 95% as well. (I suppose there may be one or two companies who still advertised behind the paywall)
- Server and website expenditure is no longer justified.
- We will see the paywall come down sometime in the near future.

You know, we jest and all but the poor bastards being retrenched won't see the funny side for coming months. The idiot that built the wall and called us fools and insisted and whatever - he is the SOB he should go, not the victims of his financial blunder!

As far as I am aware of they are doing pretty fine. Can't see beeld.com or dieburger.com implemented the paywalls as yet. I think they put their decision on hold for a while - if not, they will definitely be doing it now.
