BEE ruining black entrepreneurship: study

Black economic empowerment has encouraged skilled black people to take the safer, more secure route of working in the formal sector rather than start their own businesses, according to a new report.

Not surprising.

Expect some idiotic new law to be promulgated whereby any new business not to be white-owned...

yeah, right, put a sock in it and pull the other one.

It doesn't take much common sense to see that this ANC government has failed miserably.
They should have poured the Lion's share of the effort into boosting Education years ago.

You'd be surprised at how little common sense pervades society...

Black economic empowerment reinforces white domination of business ownership in South Africa, a new report finds.
So why are whites complaining so much about it if it has been good for them?

They did pour more than the lion's share into education. It just hasn't yielded any benefit because of a myriad of reasons, from unions to invertebrate ministers who wouldn't stand up to bullying unions all at the altar of the alliance.

Because economic advancement in South Africa benefits everybody. Duh.
People's complaints have been that they are not getting jobs because of BEE, not that what you are saying. Furthermore they say they can't start a business because BEE will force them to give part of it away, contrary to what the article is saying.

Looks like you read a different article, this one definitely doesn't say that.

So you're saying they failed. Yes, I get that.
The point is, they should have taken all possible steps to make this happen, and they didn't.

So why are whites complaining so much about it if it has been good for them?
Oh come on its not that difficult. The ones complaining are employees not business owners.

For the employees BEE candidates are competition...competition you can't win against even if you're better.

For business owners it means less competition in the form of competing businesses.

That ^

Both of which points carry some truth. BEE weights job competition unfairly and creates a business ownership liability. It's also true to say that BEE has a net disincentivisation effect to black entrepreneurs. All of those statements can be true without contradicting each other.
