BEE

I am really sorry man :( I hope it all works out for the best (shallow comment I know, but I mean it).

You are aware that living costs etc in Oz are even more expensive than Europe?
Unless you are in a place like Perth or something.

Australia looks fantastic but the main thing that puts me off is the fact that everything is so damn expensive. If I get heart attack here in Europe when I have to pay for things, I will get heart attack AND ruptured hernia when I have to pay for things in Australia. Not kidding.

I myself own a major bus company in Gauteng and work with the Pretoria, Johannesburg and Ekural. councils on a daily basis - those big orange busses you see. I am not 100% BEE but do hire alot of non-white management staff and through my on going out reach project with in the company (a thing im doing because i want to and not forced to) i have now become in a way BEE. I am not prepared to sell off a large portion of my company to another company so i decided to do it some other way.

BTW Marine1 i am sorry about how your pops was treated - i wouldnt leave it at there and make sure something is done about it.

If it's gauteng coaches, I hate them, there's these two busses travelling to Sebokheng the sign says, numbers 206 & 214, I will hurt them if I ever get hold of these wanna be taxi drivers armed with a huge bus. The always cause chaos in traffic, and it's my misfortune to encounter them quite often on my way home from work in Sandton.

I'm with Marine1 on this.

I was fired because of my skin colour, twice - they called it affirmative action! I called it unfair dismissal but I didn't get anywhere with it. Being female being didn't count either!

I started my own business. There is no way anyone else is going to tell me who to employ and what colour they must be!

Sorry to hear about your experience PCTECH. :( Seems we are truly in a reverse apartheid era. They cry discrimination but yet they are the ones who are discriminating. Seems our time is up here. Not everyone can just start over though.

I am saying this because I have non-white family who wanted to open businesses or study at big universities and they were banned out, and now, since apartheid ended, they have become multi-millionaires with houses and investments in places most can only imagine, and although it may not be the same for everyone, you have to understand that this is not a simple situation, most may really be wining about something that that is not your fault, but many have also really suffered, and you can't disregard that.

Just wondering: Was this due to proper 'hard' work aka Raymond Ackerman or due to hand-out share schemes aka most of the ANC?

Na mate not Gauteng Coaches, the busses that use to be white and now the new ones are orange;)

BEE, a way to redress the injustices of the past, also to achieve economic emancipation.:)

My old man has had a business for about 30 yrs and was recently told that he now has to have BEE even though he is a one man show and has T/O off under 5 mill. So he goes to see the guy at the board - don't want to say what industry- and this arrogant racist prick says listen whitey if you don't like it then change your job. Yeah right !!
It just shows how clever the ANC have been. They have or are taking away business and land in a way that the Nats could never have dreamed of.
Very intelligent way of doing it. Boil the frog slowly so the frog does not know its being cooked.
Funny thing is when all the whities are gone what will these bastards have? Nothing !!
They will run it like the gvt has run this country - into the ground.

Rant OFF.
Call me a racist . I could care less!!
Guys is you are at school or just finished do yourself a favour and get out while you can.

You're not racist. You're venting at racial prejudice. Sorry to hear. :(

A big orange bus nearly pushed me off the road the other day when it cut me off :p ... I wanted to phone and complain, but couldn't see a number to complain to.

Hope not, going to Melbourne

My sis lives in Melbourne ... it isn't cheap, but it isn't that expensive. A lot of stuff is cheaper than here though if you know where to look.
My mom found a Puma factory shop that the most expensive shoe is $50 :p ... I took my $30 shoes to Sandton, and the store there said they could get the same pair for about R1000.

Supermarkets are about the same price, maybe a bit more ... you don't necessarily need a car due to great transport, so you can save on car costs.

I have my own little 1 man CC ... I hope this whole BEE deal doesn't catch up with me ... I have been thinking about bringing in a black partner though ... but if I do, he will be brought in based on merits, not because he's black ... that fact will just aid my company. And besides, he will still have to pay me for my shares, the same as any white guy. The thing I like about this guy, is he knows a few things about computers, but he also knows business ... he is on the executive committee of the Black Management Forum Society at RAU ... but don't let the name deter you ... Vice-President is white :P
