i got a free bass guitar from a mate at work and now i'm starting to learn how to use it. i used to fiddle with an acoustic until i gave it to my nieces. i wasn't really good, but i knew some basics (didn't have it too long).

anyways, i've been looking around for an amp and boy are they expensive. but! i just popped over to cash crusaders and saw a cort cm10b amp for R400. would you say it's a good amp to start off with for me to hear what i'm playing? what should i look out for when looking for a second hand amp?

10 watts is tiny for a bass amp. Unless you literally just want to use it for practicing on your own.

In lieu of an amp, you can plug the bass into your PC and use software, however there is usually an annoying delay to deal with, depending on your hardware.

I have a really crappy little practice amp, and it (or the guitar, not quite sure) tends to pick up the pulsing of my electric fence. Sigh.

that's pretty much what i want to do seeing as i'm still too crap to perform for more than just my wife. :) i need to confirm with my wife but i reckon R800 is my limit.
