beginner fruit/veg garden

Perhaps look at cover crops such as clovers etc, that way you help with water retention, less weeds, nutrition retention as well as the added benefit of nitrogen being leeched into the soil from the cover crops.

Speaking of clover, I've had it in the flower beds for years between the shrubs.

Do the leaves have to be chopped into compost or do the living plants provide nitrogen?

You can cut them and it will become compost. The living plant leaches nitrogen out of its roots into the soil.

First time in trying to grow potato in a bag. This is 3 weeks after planting.

Again no fertiliser and just soil from my property and water from my well. 20211028_110524.jpg20211028_110532.jpg

These are still going good.

Will probably be ready in a couple of months time.

Harvested 54 curry leaf berries from my tree and there's over 50 that needs to still ripen.

I'll be planting the seeds over the weekend as I've found that the seeds must be planted fresh and not kept long in storage.

The fruit has some medical value but the seeds are toxic. I just squeeze the seeds out and then the flesh and juice of the berries in another bowl. Screenshot_20220304-174022_Chrome.jpg20220304_171050.jpg20220304_173606.jpg

Another 62 curry fruit harvested this morning and 15 more still on the tree that need to ripen.

Going to have over 130 curry tree seedlings next year this time. 20220318_080155.jpg

I'm guessing that you enjoy curry ? :)
Since I've had the tree I've had a lot of requests from friends and family for seedlings. Also sold some seedlings on Facebook and get a sale every couple of months for the seedlings.

Most seedlings I got was about 45 last year so this is going to be more than double. After they sprout I'll transfer the seedlings to plastic planter or empty jam tins and sell them for R50 to R80 depending on the size of the tree. I think I sold 20 seedlings in the last 12 months.

And another 20l bucket almost filled from today's olive harvest.

Still have about half a bucket of olives still left on the tree to harvest that I'll take off another time.

Have 10kg of olives in brine and the rest of it given away to neighbours. 20220508_151859.jpg

Some home made olive oil.

I gave my neighbour about 10kg of freshly picked olives which they pressed to make olive oil.

You need a lot of olives to make olive oil and I think they managed to get just under 1l of olive oil from the 10kg olives. 20220527_081256.jpg

This thread has been quiet for too long.

My curry leaf tree is now nearly 4m tall with this year's fruit nearly ready for harvesting.

How long did it take for your olive tree to bear fruit?

I had no idea this thread existed. I'll attach some pics of the stuff I'm growing at the moment.
The butternut is an old pic, they're just about ready to be harvested now. IMG_20230210_163437.jpgIMG_20230102_175420.jpg

Your photos proves your name incorrect. I counted 10 fingers.

Anycase - what do you do with the pomegranate ? I cut my bush down, replaced with a peach tree.
