Hi

So me and my gf want to start gym this week ,i know the machines and workouts quite well but not supplements!

So we have problems areas we want to work on and basically tone and look healthy again

Im not going to worry about being massive,u just want to add a bit and tone

So which products can we start with ?whey?creatine?fat burners?please assist

Eat healthy and maybe supplement with some protein shake. Number one thing is what you eat day to day.

Why are you so quick to jump on supplements. Rather up your food budget and buy more quality food, fish oil and multivitamins. Those are the three things you should be buying already, irrespective of whether you train or not.

Yep.
When did working out become synonymous with taking all this other stuff? Start with eating whole foods and drinking water. If a few months down the line you feel the need to start tweaking things by adding whey, creatine etc. then go for it, but there's really no need right from the start.

Protein is what you need to recover faster. Eat healthy foods high in protein, such as tuna, chicken, steak etc. Only use supplements as boost to your protein intake. Whey protein shakes twice a day can help.

For a beginner, fix your diet first. Then take CLA 3 times a day with meals whilst eating a healthy diet. Wait 2 or 3 months. See if it has worked for you.

DO NOT use a scale to measure your progress as you will be gaining muscle mass quickly as a noob.

Only add a protein shake at this stage if you are battling to find healthy stuff to eat. If you do, buy one with low carbs.

Lastly, the best piece of advice I always give people is to find healthy food which tastes good and doesn't feel like an effort to make/eat. And teach yourself to appreciate and enjoy drinking water. Having a water bottle with you during the day is a massive help.

already doing 1-2L a day

true will get my food sorted first ,maybe a good detox ?

Don't bother with machines, they're generally pointless. Do free weights and bodyweight exercises.
Yup. It's such a difference swinging a kettlebell or doing a pull-up vs. standing still with a machine focusing on just one muscle group.

Trust me, as long as you don't use roids there's no way you'd get huuuuuge. Eat right and train smart

Humans have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years. I think your body should have learned how to detox itself in that time.

Don't over-think it. Just eat smart and gym at a level that will be sustainable in the long term.

OP

Weight loss happens with your intake - if you spend more calories/kJ than you consume you will lose weight.

Get myfitnesspal and calculate you TDEE - eat at 500 kj below your maintenance and you will lose weight.

I see CLA and kettle bells getting mentioned - my 2c stay away from that bollocks. Too many people buy the flavour of the week supplement and have bad form with kettle bells. Rather take a multivitamin - you are probably going to cut down on fruits and do a basic beginner program (you will not get huge by lifting weights) it takes years/roids to look like Chris Hemsworth.

Do SL5x5 it is simple to understand and there is an app for it.

Oh and read /fit/'s sticky lots of useful info there :)

Good luck OP

Ok so was at the gym to pay get my card ect, tomorrow we're starting with the trainer

He goes on your blood group and works out a diet/eating plan based on that..

Sounds good to me?

For what i want to do he said just the eating plan that he'll be working out is enough to get me there,if i want to bulk at some stage later on then we can look at some supplements but he's not a fan of it

Would you mind posting what your last few meals were? Or maybe just what a usual days eating looks like for the two of you? Include snacks and drinks .
