I just got a ready-made card from truworths in the post, with my name on it and an account number, even though I've never had contact with them before. Are they still allowed to do this after the introduction of the new credit act? Isn't this how the whole credit-crisis happened - by throwing credit at everyone?

Also, what if this got lost in the post and someone else decided to active the account on my behalf, and destroy me credit rating? Although the nice new shiny piece of plastic does look nice alongside my bank card which is going to snuff it any day now :P

I also receive a Truworths card in the post every 6 months or so and the only way to activate it is to go into a store with your ID.

I recently decided to go for internet banking and was very surprised to see that I have a second credit card!

They probably send you the card but still have to officially approve your credit limit so its technically allowed, just guessing.

Yeah, that is how it works. Some you can do it over the phone, some require you to actually go into the store with your ID.

I guess it is a questionable practice...

But thats inducing people to use credit!! I mean, people will find it convenient to just rock up at a store to activate a card than actually do the whole paperwork of applying for it!

The best thing to deal with it is to bless it with a scissor! Though I still somehow think that this ishouldnt be allowed!

I also get them from time to time. Usually straight from the mail and through the shredder....
