AS you can see the product i am on is Premium Uncapped ADSL (LINE IS WITH TELKOM)

Ok so pics are very recent, i rarely download anymore because i have a fiber line at work that i do it from.
the day i decide i want a few things from a file share i notice that i am getting 40kb/s ?? i got more from my 1 meg line in the past.

So what i would like to know, is this normal? because i'm paying for a the top 4meg service so why are torrents be shaped down to 40kb/s on a line that is mostly used for home work...

I decided to test my theory out inbefore call Telkom..

i VPN'd into work started the downloads and bam 400+ kb/s on my vpn connecting. Same ADSL line Diffrent ISP's

Now i would like to know am i paying 900 rand for a browsing line or a line that is advertised for people who download, game and "straining" the network more??

I would love to know whats going on because its purely MWEB that are at fault here.

I have never had a problem with their service before, what the hell is going on?

As you can see i am not killing the the line.. 110 gb for a whole month that's pretty good or so i thought.

I had exactly the same problem on my so called "premium" 4M account. Hardly ever "abused" it but when I needed to download a game I was shaped to hell and gone. Therefore I left!

After seeing all the press about MWEB, I rate you try a different ISP ;)

At this point i feel like taking my 30+ uncapped accounts away from Mweb just like i did with VOX.
Its so clear that the service has totally gone down in the last 6 months.

I would love a response from MWEB on this matter or i will migrate all my accounts to Neotel very soon.
I Dont want to deal with another account manager that has no idea how MWEB's network even works.

Good Afternoon sensbeard, please note that we cannot guarantee torrent speeds as there are many factors that impact on them.

Have you tested an alternate file or test news to verify if you have the same experience?

Please also provide me your MWEB account details via private messaging.

Or you cut the bs and admit that MWEB shapes the sh*t out of p2p traffic?

Thanks for the reply, I don’t need speed on an alternate file I need speed on the thing I’m trying to download.
Sure it’s great that I can get full speed on a MS update or steam game download, but unfortunately I need premium service when I need it not when its decided I can have it, if that is the case then I need a better option, as you can see I am not an abuser I can upload 2 years of records averaging 70 GB a month.

But when i decide i need to do something the service that i pay for should be able to manage to do it without bypassing your policy's.

I understand people abuse the network with torrents but that is not any reason to shape .torrent files for your whole customer base. If people start downloading to many OS updates will you shame KB files as well? Torrents are used for much more than piracy. it is one of the best P2P files systems out there, you cant expect us to use older file sharing tech just because people start abusing your network, that's like saying we cant keep up with technology as a ISP.

Surely taking a more expensive option gives me as a customer preference over shaping torrents for abusers?

Torrent speeds are also impacted on by the speeds at which the file is being shared at, among other factors.

This is outside our control and therefore we cannot guarantee speeds on the protocol. Yes torrents receive the lowest priority on our network, however it is not the only factor affecting speeds

LOL ... Things are SLOW at MWEB because of they ARE in control too .....:D

Best bet, get away from the ''oopsie ISP'' before they call you an ''abuser''.....

He just said that he connected to a VPN and the file flew, I.E Bypassing shaping and he also used a different ISP

Mweb guy I'd hate to be you these days, dealing with irate customers caused by management :p

Segg VPN traffic is prioritised, downloading over VPN is not permitted.

What's happening is that the torrent traffic is not being identified as such by our network.

That's if he was using his MWEB connection.

He only confirmed using a VPN that you are shaping his account to oblivion. Why?

But he told you that bypassing the shaping via a VPN the torrent runs at full speed? How did you come up with that response? I am very confused!

Reaching much?

Hey Seriously we all know that no ISP prioritises torrent traffic.

Sure but no other decent ISP does it to the extend that MWeb do currently. There was a time that you were the best now Mweb scrapes to bottom of the proverbial barrel!

Different ISP.... could be business account or capped account (generally obtains better speeds)

The only way we can actually test, is if he tries an alternate file and see if the speeds are similar.

Well at the moment this is the only factor since swapping IPS accounts instantly changes the speed by a factor of 90% proving that it’s not the amount of seeds or the DSL line. (Neotel ISP account when i VPN incase that helps you)

So basically what your saying is that no matter what account i have a MWEB I’ll be shaped on torrent files?
Unless ofcorse if i get a 4MB uncapped unshaped account which i also have by the way. (This account I have no problem with)

But the problem is I feel I’m over paying then since I’m obviously not using enormous amounts of data but yet still getting low priority on torrents. I paid for premium service as a redundancy in case id need the speed and by the looks of what you’re saying unless I pay for the unshaped service no matter how little DATA I use I will still be shaped upon torrent files?

Just trying to understand how this works.

Shape your whole client base because of abusers, or shape the abusers? What sounds better to you?

I can provide any info you may need (I run huge networks so i know what i'm talking about)
I just want to be able to internet the way i want to without abusing any network, but without paying for another unshaped line .(Because i don’t need tons of data just the service i pay for and as long as i am not abusing the MWEB network i dont see why i cant get it)

The only way we can actually test, is if he tries an alternate file and see if the speeds are similar
My speeds are fine on other files that's not the point, my point is the system you use to shape traffic is affecting Premium non-abusive clients.

Don't go with Neotel. I agree with leaving Mweb (anyone should at present) but the horror stories I've heard abut Neotel.....you'd just be jumping from one ratnest to another. Go with someone more reliable like OW or (so I hear) Afrihost.

My experience with torrents today:

View attachment 79115

I tried to download a torrent and also use the M-Web news servers.

M-Web News Server: 20kb per second.
Torrent: 25kb per second

I connect (PPPoE) with a capped IS account...

IS News: 104kb per second
Torrent: 95kb per second.

I haven't touched my M-Web account in a LONG time... surely I SHOULD be given some priority given that my usage of the network has been relatively low.

Well, serves you right for staying with these arrogant unethical bunch. See, the ABUSERS (and not all MWEB ''activists'' got the abuse letter mind you) may have had a point. On my OTHER ISP my downloads run like a steam train - to the extent that I along with many other pi$$ed ex MWEBBERs try to get the stubborn to change MWEB groupies to move, by posting download images showing how good life can be.

I don't mean to fight or disrespect you ... But after all the negative discussion and proof on the sh.tty attitude and tactics of MWEB, if ANYONE chooses to ignore the comments and stay with MWEB, then they deserve the sh.t they get.

Good luck with MWEB, but really, consider a change, or as MWEB puts it ''test the waters''.
