Bentley Bentayga

Get a look at Mansory’s 887bhp Bentley Bentayga Speed

Fastest Bentley SUV gets a whole lot faster with the full Mansory treatment. Blindfolds at the ready

Mansory has been fiddling with the updated W12-engined Bentley Bentayga Speed. It then fiddled some more, and more, and more ad infinitum.

The end result is the ridiculous-looking thing you see above. Mansory says that this is a ‘complete vehicle conversion’ with a carbon widebody kit, new daytime running lights, a full carbon fibre bonnet, a carbon grille, a giant roof spoiler, some interesting C-pillar trim, a giant spoiler and a new diffuser.

There’s also carbon fibre roof rails, carbon fibre mirrors and many carbon fibre air intakes. We’d diplomatically describe the styling as ‘busy’.

There are giant 23-inch wheels (with 24-inchers available as an option) and a sports exhaust system too. Oh, and the W12 gets new turbos and an ECU flash to up its output to 887bhp and 922lb ft of torque. Good grief. The result is a 0-62mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed increase from 190mph to a much more rounded 200mph.

Bentley Bentayga Speed Space Edition

Bentley Orlando has used Mulliner's extensive capability to produce a bespoke space-themed Bentayga Speed for one of its customers. Using feature content from Mulliner's personal commissioning guide and a number of bespoke elements, the resulting Bentley Bentayga Speed is a stunning individual example of the craftsmanship associated with Mulliner.

The exterior paint shade of Cypress is famously familiar from the launch of the first generation Continental GT in 2003. The dark metallic grey with subtle green undertones creates a dark, stone-like exterior, with visual presence increased by the use of Blackline Specification - replacing all exterior brightware with gloss black version. Orange Flame accents to the gloss carbon fibre Styling Specification take inspiration from comet dust trails racing across the night sky, and add a bright contrast to the Cypress paintwork. The combination provides a unique backdrop for the bespoke interior.

Inside the beautifully crafted cabin, the first individual feature visible when opening the doors are the illuminated treadplates depicting planets orbiting a solar system. The eye is quickly drawn to the Orange bezels surrounding the Galaxy Stone fascias set into the dashboard and mirrored on the door waistrails. The smooth bright surfaces contrast the dark grey tactile stone emphasising the highly bespoke nature of this customer commission.

Mulliner reveals one-off space-themed Bentley Bentayga

British firm's in-house bespoke division gives SUV unique design features, including orange accents and gloss black trim

A unique space-themed Bentley Bentayga Speed has been produced by the firm’s Mulliner in-house bespoke design team.

The one-off Bentayga, named the Space Edition, was commissioned by a customer of Bentley’s Orlando dealership. The model features an exterior paint shade called Cypress, a metallic grey with green undertones that harks back to the launch of the first-generation Bentley Continental GT in 2003.

Bentley’s Blackline Specification option, which adds gloss black exterior trim, has also been selected for the car. The model’s carbonfibre has been highlighted with an Orange Flame colour that, Bentley says, “takes inspiration from comet dust trails racing across the night sky”.

The cabin, meanwhile, features a Beluga and Porpoise styling option, bespoke tread plates depicting the planets of the solar system, and the use of orange for the stitching, bezels and upholstery. The gear selector and steering wheel are also trimmed in bright orange.

Bentley to reveal long-wheelbase new car on 10 May

Fifth model in Crewe’s line-up is tipped to be the new extended-wheelbase Bentayga

Bentley will add a fifth car to its line-up on 10 May and cryptic teasers given by the brand suggest it will be a new long-wheelbase version of its Bentayga SUV.

An extended version of the Bentley Bentayga has been on the cards since 2016, when company bosses told Autocar that the model’s sales success had prompted internal discussion about various new derivatives.

Mooted were a coupé version, a limited-edition high-performance model (which we now know as the W12-engined Bentayga Speed) and a long-wheelbase version, which has been testing in camouflage on public roads since 2020.

Bentley has not confirmed whether the new model arriving next month is this extended-wheelbase Bentayga, but references to a “long-awaited” new model and Its engineers and craftspeople going to "new lengths" certainly suggest that’s the case.

Adding “an extra dimension of on-board wellness”, this will be the fifth model in the Bentayga line-up, joining the standard V8 car, the V6 plug-in hybrid, the firmed-up Bentayga S and the range-topping Speed.

New Bentley flagship will offer 24 billion configurations, world’s most advanced seats

Bentley is remaining tight-lipped about its new flagship product that it plans to reveal next Tuesday, May 10, but the British carmaker has released a few interesting titbits of information.

Bentley’s fifth model line, which is rumoured to be an extended-wheelbase Bentayga SUV, will offer scope for personalisation as never seen before.

According to Bentley, the new model will offer up to 24 billion unique configurations of trim specification, all handcrafted in Crewe.

Among these is what the company claims to be the most advanced car seat ever created. The new Bentley Airline Seat specification will offer 22 ways of adjustment, an advanced new auto climate sensing system and postural adjustment technology with 177 individual pressure changes possible across six zones.

Bentley is also somewhat proud of its new Diamond Illumination system, which emits light through small perforations in the soft-feel door trim. This illumination effect is achieved using 68 LEDs that emit light through small 1mm perforations in the leather-trimmed door panels.

The Bentley Bentayga has been Stretch Armstronged

Bentley draws some extra length out of its big-selling SUV to make a new-age wellness limo

Missing the Bentley Mulsanne? Well, this is the car designed to hush your pining. It’s the Bentley Bentayga Extended Wheelbase, and it’s here to bring “a new focus on wellness” to the world of luxury cars. Yep, ‘wellness’ doesn’t just mean yoga, reduced screen time and the occasional duvet day. It can also mean an already un-small SUV swelling even further in size.

The wheelbase has grown by 180mm, and it’s all in the back doors, ensuring it entirely benefits rear-seat passengers. The result is a total length of 5,305mm – longer than a BMW X7 or Mercedes-Benz GLS, but still 200mm short of the old Mulsanne.

Bentley hasn’t just strung out its SUV like an oversized metal Stretch Armstrong toy, though. It’s also upped the quality of the seating for those perched in the back. The folks in Crewe have fitted something they’re calling an ‘Airline Seat’.

Which doesn’t mean standard sickbags, rather 22-way adjustment, a recline angle of up to 40 degrees and auto climate and posture control; sensors determine whether to heat or ventilate the seat (or even both at once) and whether to pulse any minor adjustments of the seat position to keep you comfortable. It’s safe to say Bentley’s Seat Naming Division probably doesn’t fly via the sort of airlines that loudly sell lottery tickets at half-hour intervals.

Bentley Bentayga EWB

Bentley is bringing a new focus on wellness to its model range with the launch of the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase - a new grand touring SUV that builds on the strengths of the Bentayga to become a new luxury flagship, extending the latest product range to five models.

So much more than just a stretch, the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase is the result of a nine-figure investment by Bentley to create a new model that provides the best rear cabin experience since a Mulsanne, whilst retaining the Bentley hallmarks of effortless performance, exquisite handcraftsmanship and endless personalisation.

The success of the Bentayga defined and enabled the growth of the luxury SUV market since the first unveiling in 2015. Over the last seven years, the Bentayga has proved its credibility through genuine off-road capability, hybrid technology, record-breaking performance, and bespoke specifications. The Bentayga remains Bentley's best-selling model, and has become the benchmark against which other luxury SUVs are measured. The Bentayga Extended Wheelbase once again redefines the zenith.

In 2021, Bentley achieved record sales of 14,659 cars, a 31% growth over the previous best from 2020 - and the Bentayga accounted for just over a third of this volume. The global luxury SUV market continues to expand, with the forecast increasing towards the end of the decade across all regions. However, this is not the same for the E-segment, which has been declining. The Bentayga Extended Wheelbase has the potential to raise the ceiling of the D-segment, as one of the spiritual successors to the Mulsanne.

New Bentley Bentayga EWB replaces Mulsanne as flagship

Extended wheelbase version of SUV adds 180mm of length for more backseat space

An extended-wheelbase version of the market-leading Bentley Bentayga SUV has been revealed and officially labelled it the marque’s new flagship, a status previously held by the Bentley Mulsanne limousine, which ended production in 2020.

The new model, called EWB for Extended Wheelbase, is stretched by 180mm and has all of its extra space in the rear passenger compartment and extra length in the rear door. Sold only with a twin-turbo petrol V8 “for the time being”, it ushers in a suite of trim, paint and styling changes, the most obvious of which is a new vertically slatted grille.

The EWB also introduces a new rear steering system that both reduces the turning circle and enhances high-speed stability, a refinement that first appeared in Bentley’s Flying Spur saloon in 2019 and more recently in the Bentley Continental GT. Despite the extra length, the EWB’s turning circle of 11.8m is actually 0.6m tighter than a standard-wheelbase model’s.

The EWB’s launch is a stern defence of Bentley’s leadership in the global super-luxury SUV market. Last year, the Bentayga accounted for more than 40% of Bentley’s record annual sales (14,659 units, up 31%) and the company expects about 45% of future Bentayga buyers to opt for the EWB.

The Crewe firm effectively invented the sector with the Bentayga’s launch in 2015 and has maintained its supremacy through the arrival of the Lamborghini Urus and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The imminent arrival of the Ferrari Purosangue is likely to expand super-luxury SUV sales further: Bentley bosses say today’s 40,000 sales should climb by one-third by the end of the decade.

Bentley unveils the extended wheelbase Bentayga

Last week we reported on the upcoming launch of a new Bentley model and that all indications pointed to an extended wheelbase Bentayga.

Our psychic abilities proved to still be strong when Crewe’s stretched out ultra-luxury SUV launched on the 10th of May. Until then we were teased with images of their Diamond Illumination on the centre console and door panels, as well as its revolutionary Airline Seat, sporting 24 billion different configurations that has 22-way adjustment and 177 pressure changes across six zones using air pockets rather than conventional motors. And then there is the body heat and humidity sensing function that automatically decides if your Savile Row or Stella McCartney-clad bottom needs cooling or heating, thereby blending innovative technology and exceptional craftsmanship. So, it seems to be a worthy replacement for the discontinued Mulsanne sedan…

Although the extended wheelbase Bentayga can accommodate seven British politicians on their way to a Covid-19 party and/or private school Sandtonites, Bentley decided against it. This isn’t a dolled-up Quantum after all. The standard layout is a four plus one, with a temporary middle seat for occasional use, but one can also opt for full five-or four-seaters, with the latter offering five massage programmes.

Bentley will offer two special editions at launch. Azure includes 22-inch, 10 spoke wheels, bright lower bumper grilles, unique embroidery and badging, quilted seats, mood lighting and a heated steering wheel. The First Edition adds Diamond illumination, a premium handmade Naim audio system and metal overlays in the veneer.

Manhart’s 799bhp Bentley Bentayga is certainly not subtle

Fancy your big Bentley in Black n’ Gold? Manhart is here to help

Is the 626bhp Bentley Bentayga Speed a little pedestrian for your liking? Would you prefer your monstrous Brit SUV with 800bhp? Well, we’ve bad news for you – Manhart’s modified Bentayga only manages 799bhp. So close!

There aren’t too many details around the BT800 just yet, and we’re not actually sure whether it’s based on a V8 or W12-engined Bentayga, but Manhart has only announced plans to offer Bentley upgrades so far so we’re assuming it’s a work-in-progress.

Still, we are told there’ll be 782lb ft of torque to match the power output, and there’ll be a flap-controlled stainless steel exhaust that should wake the neighbours up.

You’ll be able to spec 22-inch wheels too, plus the traditional black and gold Manhart decal set. Oh, and just check out the renders of the interior. Would you though, Internet?
