Variants join five other hybrid models as firm aims to offer electrified cars across range by 2025
The Bentley Bentayga S and Bentley Bentayga Azure will get hybrid variants in the UK next year, gaining an electrically assisted V6 powertrain in place of a 4.0-litre 542bhp V8 engine.
The two luxury SUVs will join five other hybrid models – including the existing, standard Bentayga hybrid and Bentley Flying Spur S hybrid - and their arrival means 50% of the firm's line-up is now sold with an electrified powertrain.
Power comes from an uprated version of the powertrain used in the standard Bentayga hybrid. It combines a 3.0-litre TFSI V6 engine with a 134bhp electric motor, which is powered by an 18kWh battery.
Total power stands at 456bhp - 80bhp less than the full-fat V8 - and both cars complete the 0-62mph sprint in 5.3sec. Bentley also claims both cars can achieve more than 27 miles on electric-only power.

Bentley Bentayga EWB 2022 first drive
Even after I’ve experienced its spacious charms, the EWB doesn’t feel like an obvious successor to the Mulsanne. It’s better to drive than the venerable saloon ever was, being quicker and more dynamically secure, but it doesn’t have quite the same sense of occasion.
Yet the EWB undoubtedly looks better than the regular Bentayga, and apart from the need to pay a substantial supplement (even an optionless EWB is predicted to cost a punchy £211,300), choosing the stretch requires no sacrifices beyond the more subdued engine note.

Bentley Bentayga Odyssean Edition
Bentley has unveiled the Bentayga Odyssean Edition, continuing the story of extraordinary sustainable design, without compromise to the renowned Bentley character or craftsmanship. This new limited edition is focused in sustainability, and will be strictly limited to just 70 examples.
The first Odyssean Edition was launched in 2021 to the Flying Spur family, and took design influences from the EXP 100 GT concept car that defined Bentley's view of luxury mobility in 2035 as part of its Beyond100 strategy. Similar to the Flying Spur Odyssean, the new Bentayga limited edition takes advantage of the benefits provided by a Hybrid powertrain.
Together, the Bentayga Hybrid's V6 petrol engine, electric motor and new and improved 18.0 kWh battery deliver a remarkable spectrum of performance, from the calm of near-silent, zero emission EV mode to thrilling full-throttle acceleration, with an electric-only range improved to at least 28 miles (45 km) on the WLTP cycle.
With a combined output of 462 PS (456 bhp), the 3.0-litre TFSI V6 petrol engine and 100 kW electric motor-generator can power the Bentayga Hybrid from zero to 62 miles an hour (100 km/h) in just 5.3 seconds, with a top speed of 158 mph (254 km/h). The sensation of effortless power is, if anything, accentuated by the hybrid powertrain due to the capability of the electric motor to deliver its full torque output from zero revolutions per minute.
Bentley's hybrid portfolio now consists of seven models out of 14 in total, meaning 50 per cent of the complete Bentley model range is now electrified.

I would agree that the car is very sustainable, because they’re only going to make 70 of them.

WHAT'S THE VERDICT?
“The Bentayga has always been an irresistibly posh take on the SUV. Its update only exaggerates the feeling”
Quite often, our reviews of big, posh SUVs – especially the quick ones – involve us having to leave our reservations about the sheer point of the things at the door. The Bentayga battered them out of us before we even got the chance. It’s a force of nature, but an annoyingly irresistible one, helped by just how long, wide and heavy Bentleys are in the first place.
Ultimately we don’t think it’s quite as bespoke and beautifully finished as a Conti GT coupe or Flying Spur saloon but this, don’t forget, is also Bentley’s entry-level model. It can be specced to perform whatever role you envisage for it (well, luxury four seat chauffeur car or leather clad family hauler) and Bentley’s brand values are well matched to the SUV. It’s not trying to defy physics, just trying to be a high-rise luxury car. It does that very well. Whether you’re experiencing it from the front or back seats.

Powered by the most successful 12-cylinder engine of the modern era, the Speed Edition 12 models are a fitting farewell to an extraordinary engineering achievement.
