Hi.. At work I have a BESX server setup, and in the past I have successfully setup users on BESX and on their Blackberrys. Now I finally got a Blackberry but for some reason I cannot get my account activated! I have no idea where the process is going wrong. I receive the ETP.DAT (it never leaves the inbox) email yet on the BB it just stays at 'Contacting Server...' and then quits saying my server cannot be contacted. I've gone through the process countless times.

Every other user I've setup has been done without any problems whatsoever. Now that I'm doing my BB a problem appears

I've got:
Exchange 2010
BESX 5.0.2.29
Windows 2003 AD

I added the Send As and Receive As permissions to my account on the AD but still no luck! Help is appreciated..

Reset password on besserver and try activating on the bb handheld.

Have this issues now and then

I'm activating it from the handheld. I've reset the activation password, removed user and added again but no luck. Done this a few times over the last 2 days.

Its a new user that has not been on BES before.

If you havn't already, this usually helps with these sorts of BES problems:

Remove user from server.
Reboot Server.
Add user to server.
Try activate.

Removing and re-adding straight away often results in a failure. You could perhaps restart BES services instead of rebooting, but if you can reboot it would be the better option.

Will try that later - haven't restarted the services at all during this problem. Will do it when it's quiet and report back.

Are you running any policies on BES ?
Is the handheld getting proper signal ie. GPRS /EDGE or 3G (must be in capitals) ?
Reboot the phone and remove battery, then try activation again ?
If all else fails wipe phone, recreate account and activate.

Sounds like the user is not starting up. Have a look in the MAGT log.

Restarted the services and there is no change.

Are you sure your phone has been BES enabled?

Yes.

Are you running any policies on BES ?

No

Yes

Did it yesterday, tried it now. No dice.

If all else fails wipe phone, recreate account and activate.

How do I wipe the phone? (new to BB)

Sounds like the user is not starting up. Have a look in the MAGT log.

What is MAGT?

When I start the activation procedure on the handset I get an email from blackberry delivered to my Inbox (with a ETP.DAT attachment). It stays in the Inbox. On the phone it shows 'Contacting Server...' and doesn't go further until it eventually times out.

Through the Desktop Software it says: "Enterprise email services are currently unavailable. Your administrator has not added your mailbox to the BES." My email account is in BES... not sure what else to try? Every other user has been so easy to setup. I have a feeling it may be permissions on my user account.

Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logs\20111027

Have a look in magt log for any errors and whether the user is stating up.

Also first try \Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Utility\IEMStest.exe on see if there are any permissions issues.

Getting somewhere:

{[email protected]} MAPIMailbox::MAPIMailbox - OpenMsgStore (0x8004011d) failed, MailboxDN=/o=xxx/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=IT, ServerDN=/o=xxx/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=xxxEX01/cn=Microsoft Private MDB
[40720] (10/27 00:12:20.195):{0x1528} MAPI call failed. Error 'The information store could not be opened.

Okay, so it's failing when trying to access my mailbox.

I ran the IEMStest.exe on my pc, selected the right Outlook profile and then a contact list pops up (?). I select my name and it seems to accept it. It looks (to me) that there is a permission problem. NOw just need to figure out what account and permission I need to add to my account.

Does your account have admin rights? If you do remove it and try then.

How do I wipe the phone? (new to BB)

Manual Wipe: In order to perform a manual wipe of your entire BlackBerry, you will need to do the following: Options > Security Options > General Settings > Click the trackwheel/trackball on the Password field > Select “Wipe Handheld“. As with the above method you be prompted to enter “blackberry” (no quotes) in order confirm the system wipe.

This is different on all models. But should be in approximately the same place

Been doing further reading and I've found that with Exchange 2010 and 15+ users in BES there are complications with "throttling" for the user account BESAdmin. (link[/URL]). I have exactly 15 users, and the 16th (me) is giving issues. So I tried this (Exchange2010 throttling policies) but it didn't work. Haven't restarted MSExchange though, which after doing may allow it to work.

I've also found a support KB from BB that describes the MAPI Mailbox error I get (above) and shows me how to increase the 32 MAPI session limit by editing the registry on the Exchange server (bb.com link). Haven't done this yet as I have to restart the MailStore which can only be done after hours.

It does actually. Will test this out now.

We've seen that the activation process is actually case sensitive when it comes to your AD username and email address. So if your AD User is Name.Surname, you have to activate with [email protected], [email protected] won't work

This worked! Wiped the phone, deleted my account on BES, re-added it, set it up on the BB and now my handheld is getting emails!

Thanks for the input guys.
