I am fed up with the Afrihost's shaping. Currently being shaped at 50% on Sunday.

For under R530 what is the best 2mb uncapped that can:

1. Download around 200gigs a month
2. Download torrents at almost full speed after 6 every day.
3. No shaping at all on weekends except if there are cable problems.

It should have good customer service. Preferably should be open 24/7.

Which one has a client management service that tells you if you are being shaped.

Good Day

We have unshaped options that would probably suit your needs.

However the packages cost more than R530.

With our shaped packages, torrents receive a very low priority and is shaped.

Also +1 to Telkom, with them now, no issues :)

Silly question...

On the "checkadsl" facility on Telkom's site, my results are ...

Maximum speed available in your area is 1Mbps
Your current product speed is : 1Mbps

If I had to opt in for a 2MB account, would I get anywhere close to 2MB speeds ?
I suspect the answer is "no", but just thought I'd check in case someone on this forum may have the same scenario.

That's really just a guide line... Look at this thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/186156-Understanding-SNR-and-Attenuation-Rates

The tracker gave me the same "Maximum speed available in your area is 1Mbps" story.

Dont trust that checkadsl site, it says the maximum speed in my area is 1MB and my current speed is 2MB

Try check www.broadbandstats.co.za punch in your telephone number and it will show you your exchange and the maximum adsl speed available.
My results on broadbandstats show my exchange is 4MB ready, a far cry from the 1MB maximum the checkadsl site showed

Awesome. Thanks for that. According to that site, the exchange in my area is 4MB capable as well. 2MB here I come !

Hi There,
Have you looked at the business packages from Afrihost? Unshaped 1MB is within you budget. I have used it for a year and get superb response.

If you are with them currently I believe they will lwt you upgrade and terminate it at any time. So without having to go through giving people half you life history to get an account set up it might be worthwhile giving it a try.

Regards

Tim

No sweat, glad I helped.
Happy hunting for your ISP :D

Probably gonna be Telkom. R648pm, all in (telephone, closer2, adsl rental and uncapped data) vs R599 just in ISP costs with MWEB (who I'm currently with). MWEB's been great, but for less than R100 more per month than I'm currently paying (MWEB ISP and Telkom costs), I can get twice my line speed with Telkom. Voting with my wallet.

Good choice :)

Got this last night. Upgraded from 1mb, got a new Telkom account and upgraded closer 1 to 2. Took me 20 mins on phone. and Line was upgraded within 30 mins. Very happy considering the price. Performance has been top notch. :)

is that all incl? Line Rental, DSL and Uncapped Data? (I do not care much for call plans as my house doesnt even have a telephone)

Is there any contract? or is it month-month, if it is the latter then im getting it right now
