Best ADSL isp

I also used to be with SAOL. Cancelled them about 4 months ago and joined up with OpenWeb. As far as im concerned Openweb is the best.

For a 3gig 384 account you can't get cheaper than Cybersmart. (R259 for everything! Yes, including line rental). If you don't want line rental through them, it is R125 for a 3Gb cap. Their service is good, have been a happy subscriber for about 3 years.

If you need more than 3gig though (or have a faster line than 384), I would go for either Openweb or WebAfrica, but I'm more inclined to WebAfrica.

Cybersmart: SAIX 3Gb R125
Openweb: SAIX 3Gb R189
WebAfrica: SAIX 3Gb R199

Openweb: SAIX 4Gb R239
WebAfrica: SAIX 5Gb R290

Openweb: SAIX 8Gb R459
WebAfrica: SAIX 10Gb R490

If you do a lot of local browsing/transfer, then get a an IS based account through either Openweb or WebAfrica.

Cybersmart = SAOL, and I'd avoid.

I'm waiting to see what happens in the next month or two and then cancelling my SAOL account.

A friend pays R200 for Do Broadband and gets 1GB, the adsl line rental and phone line rental - the R200 is his TOTAL cost per month as he never uses his landline to make calls. Did Telkom stuff it up or is this the cheapest 1GB package at the moment?

There is no best ISP, only what is right for you :) Some people don't ever use technical support and choose the price saving over that whilst others are different.

R133 for the ADSL rental and R69 for the 1 gig

Cybersmart is the cheapest. Fact. 384 curcuit + 1gb = R169-00. 384 curcuit + 3gb = R259-00. Try bargaining with Cybersmart - R499-00 for 10Gb + grow for life (gives you an extra 2mb or 3mb per day) + nightrider (download between 1am and 7.59am) and you can use 35Gb per month. No other ISP can beat that. With or without Seacom.

Thats all fair and well, but if you want access to the SAIX backbone(much better news server downloads) , you cant beat Do Broadband.

The R550 special remains the best deal currently...

4mb line + 5GIG intl cap and 30gig local. The SAIX backbone generally requires less ports resets than IS backbone.. I would highly recommend SAIX backbone for now.

Just a pity it belongs to Telkom.

if u have discovery medical aid (dont even need to be on vitality plan), then u can get vitality broadband at R44 per gig. Cheapest out there!

It all depends on what you want to do, yes cybersmart is great at low speeds (384) but there 4mbit package is slightly more expensive compared to other ISP's.

I think uncapped IS express is the best for people who really want to download a lot.
But yeah thanks people should be made aware of packages such as cybersmart + nightrider because bandwidth shouldn't be as expensive as it currently is and it's good that we have some great deals like that.

The Cybersmart 384k, 3gig at R125 is the best deal if combined with Night Rider for R25 to give you 5 times your cap.

For only R25 extra per month, this add-on service will allow you to get 5 times your cap if you use the internet in Night Rider time (1am and 7.59am).

The Grow With Us package sucks piles...At R19 for a maximum extra 93megs a month, it costs R0.2043/meg, or R204.30/gig.

Now, for a new subscriber, it works out as R19 divided by 31megs to give you R0.6129/meg, or R612.90/gig...

A Cybersmart subscriber who has been with Cybersmart for more than two years and subscribes to Grow For Life will Grow their Cap at 3 Mb per day for life.

A Cybersmart subscriber who has been with Cybersmart for more than six months but less than two years and subscribes to Grow For Life will Grow their cap at 2 Mb per day for life.

A NEW Cybersmart subscriber who has been with Cybersmart for less than six months and subscribes to Grow For Life will grow their cap at 1 Mb per day for life.

cybersmart is very good if you factor in night rider, you get to easily download 27 gigs R448 per month (R259 for line and 3gigs then R180 for topup 3GB) and I am doing it all the time. ITs the next best thing to uncapped.

As with faster line then you should look elsewhere, but with restrictive caps whats good having a 4Mb line anyways.

What do you guys think of Imaginet.co.za? Their signup process is immediate and 100% automated. Their techies are quite knowledgeable (especially when compared to my last ISP, iBurst. But then so is a pebble.) I was also impressed to know that, by the time they answer my support call, they have my details on their screen.

However, I almost never need support so not sure if that's such a great reason to stick with them.

Hate to say it but Telkom!

R 239.00 for 5GB shaped data (SAIX) and get 30GB of local only after that to use for emails or news server SAIX which is really a good deal! You won't get it cheaper!
