Mweb just cancelled my ADSL account due to alleged abuse. They stated that my usage patterns in November and December prompted their decision. I have been with Mweb for a year but they just decided to disconnect me without any warning just because i exceeded 500Gb in November and December. I guess their uncapped account is actually a 500Gb(cap) 4Mb Adsl account not a REAL uncapped adsl account.

I contacted their abuse team and appealed to them to reconnect me but they stated that they will only reconnect me if i sign up for their unshaped uncapped or business uncapped which is way too expensive for me.

I am pretty much pissed at mweb but i am not going to say anything bad about them because while i was with them their service was exceptional.

I am looking for another ISP that can match or supersede Mweb's service. I have read a lot of comments from a lot of people on other threads and to be honest i am even more confused now more than ever as to which ISP i should go with. I will appreciate your honest inputs based on your individual experience. If it helps ,I am based in the South of Johannesburg. Thank you.

Openweb - Gold Uncapped 4mb/s - I had the original 4mb/s uncapped, and upgraded to the Gold one yesterday.
The original 4mb/s Uncapped is shaped, Very fast after hours, during the day a bit slow - But always on - R539 per month, same as MWEB....

OpenWeb Gold tho have an Afrihost account for daytime surfing

Thanks guys, the openweb Gold is tempting.
If you plan to use less than 50GB per month then Afrihost is usable but dont go over that or it will crawl.... Also seeing OpenWeb have a new silver option for gaming, interesting!

500GB is a huge amount to download.

For a quality uncapped account at a reasonable price I'd go for Web Africa. I'm 100% satisfied with them, you can do around 200GB a month without going over their thresholds and if you do go over their thresholds it's more or less inconsequential with regards to p2p and nntp (at the moment). Gaming is great as is streaming (while unthrottled).

Openweb gold seems to be very tolerant towards downloaders and has various backbones. Openweb after hours uncapped unshaped is great if you have a line faster than 4mbps (you can get around 1.3TB on an 8mbps line).

Also the WA news server is infinitely better than the IS news server and a lot better than the SAIX news server, it's comparable to international paid servers except for it's low (200 day) binary retention.

OpenWeb Gold.

500GB is a lot though for any residential uncapped service. I myself have high usage but keep my downloads mostly to off peak hours and keep below 500GB - this way everybody is happy.

That summarises my suggestion.
Openweb Gold for the win.

I have mweb and downloaded like that in the beginning but now not so much because I don't really see the point of downloading so much.. takes to much time looking for stuff.. and thirdly I don't sit at home all day having the time to actually watch or play the stuff to download..

So this thread really makes me think Mweb's a bunch of tools.. what a dissapointing thread.
