Best AMD chipset? (not CPU)

890GX is the best afaik. Has a 4350 gpu onboard, so that has to count for something.

Im not upgrading yet... that would be premature. Im doing some research first :p

gonna do some testing this weekend with Brawler and see how things go... If my card runs 18500 in HIS pc, then Im upgrading Monday morning...

what a fack up

nvm found them in joburg, 011 848 7000 @ Abis

Ya if you can find that mobo you will be very lucky dude, brawler has the same mobo.

Insane, i mean you see some top end amd mobo's going for like 2k, that one is just insane at 1.2k. Also looks beautiful. They rate it better than most 2k mobo's as well.

The AMD 890GX chipset is an interesting new addition to their current line of available AMD chipsets. When looking at overall performance in both the default baseline and overclocking you will however not see any difference whatsoever to say the 785 or 790 chipsets, it's exactly the same stuff looking at it from a performance point of view,

What is so amazing about this mobo?

found this one for R1480. The AMD mobo's are CHEAP compared to the Intel ones... OMG!

Asus M4A79XTD Evo , support hypertransport 3.0 , PCi-E2.0 crossfire-X ; for AM3 only , with EPU , AMD 790x/sb750 chipset , 4 x dual channel DDR3-1800(O.C)/1600 , 8 ( 7 internal+ 1 external e-sata ) s-ata2 with raid 0/1/0+1/5/10 , 1 x parallel ata133 , on-board ieee1394 + via1708s 7.1 audio with optical s/pdif out + gigabit lan ; 2x pci-e (1x) , 2x pci-e 2.0 ( 8x+8x ) , 2 x pci, with EPU4 + express gate + anti-surge protection + Turbo key + Turbo-V + 8+2 phase Power - atx

You can see mine and take it from there. I was very impressed with the quality even compared to all the Gigabyte/Asus boards I have had in the past. @ R1200 odd nothing to fault.

ECS mobo's are extremely reliable and durable. Mine survived 2 (yes TWO) lightning stikes while my other rigs were totally fried. Had Asus boards in the past and there were always minor defects.

I would beg to differ. Probably the crappest brand out there, got plenty dead ones lying here.

I wonder how long before the 890 chipset spreads?

I'm kinda waiting for the cm690 ii as well as a few other things.

The athlon ii x4 630 has replaced the 620 at the R1000 price point, although i only see one shop which has updated their pricelist.

Best chipset that is out right now is the 790FX which can run a total of 42 PCIe lanes. 890GX is okay, but you'd only go for it if you wanted onboard graphics, or were desperate for 6 SATA 3 connectors (which are actually on the southbridge but thats not the point here). More 890 northbridges will be coming out around May, I know for a fact that the 890FX is being released then. I'm not sure how many PCIe lanes it can handle, but it can handle 6 PCIe slots, so it should be quite the beast.

790x or below is enough for me. I don't really ever make use of more than one PCI-e. But the new 800 chipsets have USB 3.0 so...maybe better to wait a bit to see (^^)

The 800 chipsets DO NOT support USB 3, there is another unrelated chip on the board that provides USB 3.
