Best browser? Free email? Email client?

Speaking of free e-mail clients, is there any free e-mail clients that is not just web-based, but actually delivers to and send from a program such as Outlook?

::Gmail::

Free POP & SMTP access, 2.7GB+ Storage & Much, Much More

If you want an invite, pm you current email address to me.

Hey Grandmaster, oh wise one, pray tell me how to do this (Thunderbird 1.5). I have followed all the setups, enabled POP sending in gmail (and saved the settings) but I get the dreaded "cant get a response" from the server, message.

I had a similar issue running Outlook and changed to Thunderbird hoping to solve the problem, so i suspect it may be to do with a port issue. I am running the dreaded marconi Combo modem on a wifi network.

Merci,

Not sure if this is the issue with you but even though my actual email address is @gmail.com I had to set my username to @googlemail.com to get it to work. Also make sure you've enabled POP access on your gmail account.

Yes, it still is a huge issue. I have been on the Mozilla forum site for the last 2 days, getting nowhere.:( .

I will try the @googlemail.com suggestion. I have done all the rigth things, opened ports in Windows Firewall, etc, but I get the "cannot connect to server", message all the time.

Try testing it with a different internet connection if you can, then if it works with that at least you know your mail settings are fine. Does it not connect to the server at all?

No connection at all. And if i ping the gmail pop setver i get a response, so the server is not down. I am able to connect to my intekom address and brings in those messages.

Hi

Every time I mention that I use Opera browser someone always recommends that I use Firefox. I would like some comments on this with reasons why your choice is better than the other browsers. Also lots of people reccomend Google mail over Yahoo which I am currently using. Why? Probably the main reason I am using Yahoo if for the instant messenger.

Any recommendations on email clients?

The mail considerations in all of the above would be security, speed, ease of use and the lowest demand on data

Thanks

Akash

Firefox - because there are a variety of addons for almost everything ...

Thread necro much?

Personally Chrome has become a firm favourite, though I still use Opera as well.

Unsure what you meant by `thread necro much' - please could you explain...

The reason I'm commenting on various posts wherever is that I only joined in December 2013 and I like to be interactive as much as I can.

He's saying you're a thread necromancer, resurrecting a thread that was dead and buried.

Being interactive is fine, but commenting on a thread that is almost 8 years old not so much.

Thanks for the explanation !

Yes - that would be great if the thread was closed after a certain duration !
