Best browser? Free email? Email client?

it's not that you can't delete mail, it's that the stuff you delete is still kept by google on their side, as far as i know.

Go to tools -> options -> general -> default brower -> check now
 
To my knowledge, FireFox is a bit more compatible with certain mulltimedia content on websites. I like Opera's interface more, but it tends to load some pages slower. (Including MyADSL!).

Generally, they are more or less the same, altough I'm going to make like sheep and recommend using Firefox. ;)
 
If you using Firefox and still need to access websites that are not Firefox Friendly, you can download the IE (internet explorer) Extension and run a IE windows in Firefox. Firefox also has "Adblock" which is used to automatically block ads, for this and other great Firefox extensions, click Tools, Extensions, Get More extensions in Firefox...
 
I use Thunderbird to access Gmail via POP3, find it works really well, and also access gmail from my phone which is cool for checking if you have any new messages. Spam filters are also really good. Use Opera and Firefox for browsers. On Firefox RC2 which seems to be a lot better than the older version of Firefox. And everything's better than IE!
 
I use Opera because its a great program and I've grown accustomed to its many features, its speed and its security. Unlike the yesteryears, I rarely come across a site that Opera is incompatable with.

I have used Outlook Express and Eudora, but now use the e-mail client built into Opera. It works well, has some unique features and saves me from having to run another program

Several years ago, I switched from Hotmail to Operamail because of the excessive spam that I was receiving with my Hotmail account. I have never tried G-Mail or Yahoo mail as Operamail meets my limited need for an online e-mail account.

Now if they would just come out with an Opera OS, I would be all set ;^}

I like Opera browser too but it doesn't load some sites correctly. On the Yahoo Mail compose window it doesn't load the text editor and smiley toolbar. But it loads Google compose window fine, I think (haven't tried Gmail in IE:D ) I've been testing Gmail over the past few days and have noticed that Gmail is better at detecting spam e-mails than Yahoo. I am auto-forwarding all mail from my Yahoo account to my Gmail account which I then download via POP3 access.

Does anyone know if Gmail does virus scanning of attachments? I also noticed on POP3 access that incoming mail is not scanned by my AVG E-mail scanner while it scanned incoming Yahoo Mail. Is this because Gmail uses a secure connection?

Browser on PC: Firefox
Browser on Pocket PC : Opera [definitely the best for mobiles]

Email Client : Thunderbird <-- Main reason involves ability to easily backup/save my email and it being in a standard format [thus can easily import into other software etc].
 
I use Firefox. I got started on it because of the tabbed browsing. It's still better than IE7 (mainly because of the extentions).

On gmail, you can delete things - you must just "purge" them every so often to permanently delete the things you don't want.

Other things I like about gmail is the new Picasa Web Album, similar idea to what photobucket is - but you can upload directly from Picasa (which isn't bad for organising photos).

It also has a word and spreadsheet section which I use to keep backups of some important word documents etc. You can also view and edit these docs online.

I've actually got two gmail accounts, one I use as my normal mail - and the other I keep backup's of important things in. It's great.

I use a combination of Thunderbird and Outlook for email, calender and contacts.
 
I find FireFox startup / login very very slow compared to Explorer,I still use explorer 6 and very happy with it.
 
Ok, this is one of those personal prefence questions... what, how, when, why and all that stuff.

For the record i use opera (and have for the last 7 years or so), rarely use ff, and dont use ie. wont use ie.

I use operas email client, and also have gmail and yahoo account. i prefer gmail. easier to use. with yahoo theres always this login kuk that you need to do every now then, which is irratating.

opera customization is great, i like the way that you can have your tabs at the bottom of the screen (which is where they belong)
 
you need to goto mail & chat accounts (tools) and set it up from there. you need your pop/imap settings.
 
and then how do you browse your mail? is it better than eg thunderbird or outlook express?

Hey Grandmaster, oh wise one, pray tell me how to do this (Thunderbird 1.5). I have followed all the setups, enabled POP sending in gmail (and saved the settings) but I get the dreaded "cant get a response" from the server, message.

I had a similar issue running Outlook and changed to Thunderbird hoping to solve the problem, so i suspect it may be to do with a port issue. I am running the dreaded marconi Combo modem on a wifi network.

Have you installed OpenSSL?

Thunderbird needs this for the secure connection GMail requires. After that just follow the configurations settings provided within mail.google.com...
 
Well I use opera and have used opera since...well since I browse the web :eek: Anyway It's nice, fast, and secure. It has a bunch of features such as a built in mail client, built in irc client. (Btw if you want to connect to opera's irc type this in the address bar: irc://irc.opera.com - A dialogue will pop up, fill in the form and connect to #lounge and #ChatterBox :D I dwell there) Anyway, firefox is nice but it has two security flaws, IE has 17, Safari one and Opera NONE!

BTW, opera is also platform independant

;) Email client I use Evolution - Gnome on Linux...and Thunderbird..
