Best browser to use with capped account

i thought i would just post my experiences with different browsers, and by so doing try to help people who have a small amount of cap to work with each month.

i use vodacom 3G for my internet, and buy a 2.3GB data bundle that i spread over two months. i have a 3.6 mb/s hsdpa modem that gives me maximum downloads speeds of about 130kb/s. i stay in pinetown, durban.

i find opera to be the best browser for general surfing. if you disable plugins and images it uses very little bandwidth and is extremely fast. i leave pop-ups and javascript enabled. if you ever want to display an image, you can just right-click on its frame and select 'reload image'. the opera browser is a small file to download at about 10mb, and is completely free.

google chrome is the best browser to use when you want to do downloads. it has always given me a stable connection during downloads (unlike opera) and seems to maximise the speed of your connection in a way the other browsers don't. for instance, it gives me download speeds of around 130kb/s on my connection, whereas opera only gives me 40kb/s. i noticed the same speed differences during downloads at an internet cafe that uses a 4mb/s adsl line.

Opera has the optional compression to save up to 80% bandwidth (Turbo mode). So if you're on 3G it's a no brainer to use that.

Yes but I am pretty sure that it will have to use international bandwidth since it is sending the data to it's server's and back again.
 
i must also add that when you download using chrome, the download speed is extremely constant. it only ever seems to go up or down by a few kb/s. however, downloads speeds on the other browsers i've used tend to fluctuate more and will sometimes even time out. does anyone know what technology google is using to maximum download speeds and stability? if anyone is planning doing some serious downloading from an internet cafe, i would definitely recommend using chrome. just remember that some sites like rapidshare throttle your download speeds if you're a free user, so since time means money, you might want to try a different source for your download.
 
Even better than a browser download manager is something like FDM (and it's free).

Yes but for 3G, is there a difference between local and international? I think that only matters for ADSL.
