Your opinions on the best car insurance? (insurance companies)

Discovery insure. Even without the vitality drive rewards they were leaps and bounds cheaper than Outsurance. I’m talking over R1000 a month for household and two cars.

I recently purchased a vehicle so I was in the market. Bought a 2019 Suzuki Ignis.

I'm a 32 year old male. Driving for 14 years and never had a claim. Cars are parked behind a locked gate. Broker said since its a 2019 model it's going to be R900 pm excluding my current car and household which is R770 with ECIA Insurance. I said f**k that is too much.

Called a few big name insurers like Outsurance Sanlam. Crazy excess and monthly premiums. Stumbled upon Hello Peter's insurance ratings. Miway and KingPrice where ranked one and two respectively. Tried them and it was King Price who gave me the best deal with both cars and household for R1200 with an excess of R6500.

Went back to my broker and they said I'm nuts if I want to go with KingPrice. I don't know if they were pushing their own agenda or not due to the good ratings on Hello Peter for King Price. So I was like... Then get me something better or I'm going with them. A day later they got back to me with Quicksure. Both cars excess R2500 and household contents covered at R250 000 for R1100 dependant in me installing a tracker for the Suzuki.

[TLDR] My advice would be to use a broker and call around for the best quotes on your own. The best insurer for you will depend on your risk profile. Play the insurers / broker against each other. Broker is mainly for when you need to claim so as to not get caught up with wording etc.

@Mal79 What do you mean by "best"? Most reliable no-quibble claims-payer? One call no paper claims? Personal rep who handles everything? So many different needs and priorities ... as with "best" in every other category (best car, best house, best food, best restaurant, best hotel, etc), expect to pay a premium.

You're obviously not asking for the cheapest else you would've said so.

Has anyone claimed from Naked ? Any issues as they do appear to be the cheapest option ?

I always say you will only know how good insurance are after your first claim

Had no issue with Outsurance over the years, but they are expensive now.

Just don't touch anyone in the "Auto and General" group, like Budget. They try anything including lying, to deny your claims.

Yes. He could go with a non comprehensive at a very low monthly premium. But then if he hits some guys Ferrari... .

Comprehensive cover covering full retail. Don't need credit shortfall etc.
