Best Credit Card

Best will depend on what you need I guess. However:

Personally I reckon Investec has got it right. Everything just works & is worry free. Unlike with the other banks I don't feel like I have to watch my back the whole time with their bullsht hidden catches. Plus not having to deal with the normal bank bull**** like queues and incompetent staff is easily worth the extra R30-ish extra I pay a month (It'll work out as >R30 for most though). There is also a reward scheme of some sort...but I didn't look to closely at it tbh. Also...prime-1% credit cards kick ass.

Sure, but then why a HSBC debit card to spend here. There are better cards in the UK that allow you to spend here with no load charge or transaction fee, so basically at Visa's or Mastercards own exchange rate.

I use my FNB card to withdraw money at an FNB atm and they charge me. I use my UK card, it's free!

Ah yes, i'm sure there are loads of other option's. I'm a student though and dont use the card much, except maybe once every couple of months when I put at max a grand in it.

I have local cards as well but they're not like Credit cards. Also easier for me since all of my transactions are between HSBC accounts, plus i'm over there 1/3rd of the year anyway ;)

I'll probably change in the future, it's just easier at the moment :)

Yeah, never have. Living inside your means is important.
I agree, orginally I got a CC not for buying more or on credit, but back then, there were no bank chargers for swiping on a CC whilst there for debit cards, and depending on which scheme you picked for drawing money. For me it was a small money saver. Also, it is always paid off the same month, to prevent paying interest, because interest on a CC is the very last thing you need.

So you've never spent in excess of what you earn? Not even once?

I do, every now and then. But I am able to manage it. It allows me to take advantage of specials when I see them among other things.

And the 1,200,000 annual CTC requirement isn't a problem for most people?
That wasn't really asked. I have no idea what OP earns, nor do I particularly care.

The 1.2 bar is worst case scenario...depending on what degree/career you've got the CTC requirement is either reduced or scrapped entirely. Hell I'm nowhere near 1.2 bar.:(

+1 Honestly sometimes I wonder at other people. Burn through an entire month's salary in 10 days flat and then are surprised when the sht hits the fan.

The main reward differentiator seems to be the 1.5% cash back. That's a pretty good deal - You have to be on Level 3 to get that kind of eBucks reward...

Depends on where you shop. On Level 3 you get AT least 1.5% back. It's more if you shop at the ebucks partners like Makro Dischem etc. Or if you use your card to pay for petrol.

Sure - but you have to do a whole lot of stuff to be on level 3 and get 1.5%
This is automatic.

Actually it is very easy to get to level 4 even. I do nothing funny, just swipe and I am on level 4.
As for the cheque account...now that is a different story.

Ya I'm on cheque account but stuck on level 2! Granted I don't spend much ATM!
