Yeah ordered directly from Amazon and Amazon shipping too. Worked out alot cheaper than using a third party shipping company.

Is anyone using this thing and can provide a comprehensive review? I have googled and cannot find anything. Only links are SA related.
The one review I did find was for an older version and it was k@@@@@@@k. Would not touch this one without someone vouching for it. Guinea pig anyone?

Out of curiosity I went and ordered from Amazon.com and it won't let me complete checkout because they don't ship here.

Make sure you are purchasing from the actual Amazon store and not a third party store on Amazon. I tried to purchase from a third party store when Amazon did not have stock but they refuse to ship to SA. I then purchased from the official Amazon Store and was able to complete my purchase (shipping included).
Amazon Store - able to ship to South Africa
Third Party Amazon Store - most do not ship to SA.
I only used Amazon, no third party shipping / forwarding company - everything directly through Amazon and received the item in under 2 weeks even tho there was a 3-5 week wait for the stock to get in stock.

Nah. Too much trouble. I hate shopping centers.
If I can't find reviews I go with the assumption it does not make enough of a splash to warrant one and move on.
Would love to find a decently specc'd Android streamer. Pi, MK802, etc... don't quite make the grade for me. Would be ideal to pick this goodie up locally if it does the job well. It certainly has the ports required. Google Play would be a must. And JellyBean - especially if the CPU is not highly specc'd.
Got 3 Roku's now. Aiming at the forth. Device that simply works - and does it well.

What about duties / customs when you get stuff delivered locally from Amazon?

Ah. Your post made me go re-look my order as I was certain I selected from Amazon. I had added the universal mounting kit to my order and that was from a third party. It even said under the product that it was not shipped to my location. Doh!

I import a fair amount of stuff. Sometimes I get charged VAT and duties, and sometimes it slips right through with no extra charge.
It helps to have the package marked as a gift. Higher chance of it slipping through.

The easiest way to see if a seller might ship a product from amazon to SA is to click on the other buying choice link.
the roku one says 20 new from $89.95. Click on that link and see which retailers offer International & domestic shipping rates in the description.
Usually works for me, although sometimes shipping is expensive but it depends on the retailer or shipping options, if any.
Ahhh... Can't remember how many times that has happened to me. Glad you got it sorted tho. You won't regret the purchase

haha... I am restraining myself.
Got 2 x Roku 2's and 1 x Roku 3 already. I am trying to figure out the best way to sell it to my wife that I have purchased a 4th Roku before I commit to a buy.
I got all the way to payment then decided to hold on - for a bit.
I see no PayPal option for payment which is a pain. Got $600 just parking off there. Would be nice to be able to purchase using some of it.
nope ordered with Amazon themselves and they use Iparcel who have already also emailed me.

Maybe the Roku store takes Paypal? Then you can just use Postboxcourier which is SLIGHTLY more expensive.
EDIT: Yup the Roku.com store does accept Paypal.

If she enjoys the Roku, just tell her this is a spare incase something happens to the one you have now (mite be taking a huge change :erm: ).

It does require a US paypal account.
You can use your credit card the trick is to use a US address but a post code that contains the same numbers as your actual south african post code.
for example if your SA post code is 7881
use an american post code thats something like 115364-7881 or 1178813
Or whatever... but it must contain your real post code. Google is your friend to find a real US post code that contains your numbers.
Sounds silly and weird but it works.
How can I check that I registered a US Paypal account?
I used a US address but cant see if this was really accepted.
