Best Data only -- NO contract , NO modem deal

Forgive me for living under a rock ( and not knowing what the latest hot deal is )

What is the best data only ( no modem , no contract ) deal on mobile at the moment ?

The CellC pre-paid 12 month 2GB deal for R1299 is the sort of thing I was thinking about ?

Anything better than this ? ( not interested in the whole ; in-bundle / out of bundle / midnight surfer / blah de blah type stories )

For my inbuilt laptop 3G card.
 
You need to define what you mean by "best". Best deal in terms of price is 8ta, best coverage is Vodacom or MTN, but that's open to rigorous debate...

Weeellll 8ta does not even cover the area I am in , which is KZN (apart from Durban ) -- so goodbye 8ta

It looks like CellC is the best in terms of price , of a network that has coverage in KZN ?

Does VC or MTN -- seeing as they have the best coverage , have any similarly priced data bundles ? ( to CellC / 8ta )

No, they rely on those of us who don't have coverage from 8ta and Cell C getting desperate enough to pay a premium.

On their site! It's good for my kids at varsity but not for me traveling to semi remote areas. GOOD at major centre's where signal strength is good, that's what I gathered from feedback on MyBB.

Check your Cell C coverage now, as it looks like new deals are coming as soon as next month.
For now the old Cell C promo SIM R999 2GBx12 is selling R1299.
If you don't want commit to such expense, there are other 'competitors' offers:
- R399 Vodacom Internet Starter Pack 100MBx12 with modem (just for the reference) ;)
- R189 MTN promo 2GB bundle
Take MTN bundle valid for up to two months, it will allow you decide later.

In my personal experience, I have found that in main city areas, Cell C by far has the best 3G coverage (I have tried MTN and it often only gets EDGE).
I think this is because of Cell C's 900mhz 3G band
