Thanks guys IDM has realy made the difference, trying it out for now. Have not been able to locate a serial, so I will try FDM when it expires.

1. Get Firefox and install FlashGet/Got, or my personal fave, DTa! (DownloadThemAll!).

2. For IE, do a google on "FreshDownload", you have to register and they've never spammed me. (Touch wood)

I've used most of them (Flashget sucked, GetRight even more, and DAP you have to pay for + ads and it's slow and bloated).
Then I discovered Free Download Manager, definitely the best around! And it's free with no ads

So many choices.

If possible it should be a small bloatfree app, something like uTorrent. I don't want it to make coffee in the morning, just have to be able to handle http downloads that "will" get interrupted.

Mass downloader in my opinion is by far the best!

You can queue downloads, set the number of threads you want it to use, i.e. you can make it download 30+ small bits of the file you want at the same time, pretty much like getright, except this one allows for LOADS more. Yes this does put more stress on the server you download from but, hell its not my server... I don't really care.

So downloads will always download at the quickest possible rate! You can also pause etc and it will auto pause the download when a connection is lost.
