Back in the day I used DynDNS on the odd occasion to access my PCs. DyneDNS has become a paid only service.

Scenario:
PC with internet access-->Router with dynamic IP allocated by ISP which NATs all traffic to a a private IP-->Several hosts on private network.

I came across this http://lifehacker.com/the-best-free-alternatives-to-dyndns-1561556205/all but which in your mind is the easiest/best to setup on my two linux boxes.

Been using No-IP for years. Only had one down time.

They provide a free option with up top 3 host names. You should be able to update it using wget I guess. There is also a client you can install:

Edit:

There is also a local option: http://dynamicdns.geekabit.co.za/

I don't use it as my primary DDNS service, but it came in handy as a backup during the great NO-IP outage earlier this year.

I have been using No-IP for over a month now and its now even better since the Netgear FW update for the routers since the client is now built into my router.

Been using DynDNS for so long I stuck with them when they went paid. Think I took a 2 or 5 year option. Can't remember.

I personally have different requirements when it come to dynamic dns.

1. I like to use my own personal domain, have a few free .za.net and .za.org domains which I registered back in the days when those were still available.
2. It should work on my Mikrotik, which I use for every thing network at home. It can schedule routing over different PPPoE account, so it usually can connect to most dynamic dns services using some sort of a script.

That said, as an earlier poster said: http://freedns.afraid.org/
- Haven't had downtime yet with them
- Works with all my free .za.net/org domains
- There is already a script available for it on Google for my Mikrotik
- It also has a paid-for version, which means the infrastructure gets taken care of

Telkom Internet lauched their own DynDNS service a short while back so I'm gonna give it a bash https://online.telkomsa.net/smt/

It's tied to your adsl login name and looks like <username>.mydns.telkomsa.net
