No this is correct. All products should be designed this way. I just wanna play my movie.

If you have to "train" someone to use it, then it isn't very userfriendly. And then you have to "train" them how to download movies and tv shows

I assume this info comes from the net somewhere (e.g. imdb.com or tv.com) ? If so, then I don't think so.
What it can do is display movie info from a file. But you have to put the file in the same dir as the movie.

That said, the mede8er firmware is constantly updated (unlike that waste-of-money know as mvix.) So if there is enough demand for a specific piece of funcitonality then the developers can provide it.

Decided to stop being lazy and look it up myself, you can use TViXie to get it done for you. I must have one now!

I think this is a bit generic. In software I follow the convention of /Least Surprise/ which has so far been very successful: A user should not expect one thing and get something totally different -- Anything permanent needs to be confirmed, etc, etc.

Other than that, in my opinion, a product is designed according to a need for a specific user base. For specialists, you will probably require a complex system with a lot of options; for a novice, or for a very basic system, you will probably try to prevent people from doing something wrong.

Still feel that saying /all products/ tends be a bit misleading.

my mvix portable 120gb i bought from dion wired just dropped out on me a week or 2 ago :/ not cool

Looking to put another 2.5" hdd in it though... looking around for good buys on those portable drives.. any ideas anyone... and secondly, anyone know if i'll need to load software on it to be recognized by my actual mvix device itself?

my two cents... I use Media Portal... :D works great!

only crap thing is I have a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE delay when I press a button on the DSTV remote, and then like 5 secs later it comes up on my screen...

sucks

:(

this thread is just what im looking for as i wish to do the same thing. My dad is going to china @ the end of the month so was thinking of telling him to get an apple tv only R1000, except since it cant play certain file formats it has put me off big time. Also would prefer something which we can store data on it.
