I'm wondering if the Jan 2008 update from Hauwei actually upgrade the firmware to do 7.2Mbps...

Tried to upgrade firmware but at the end of installation I get an error message 'firmware not respond!'. My diagnostics screen shows the new firmware version though and connection seems fine.

I've installed the Jan 2008 update from huawei (don't think it upgraded my firmware). Must say connecting and disconnecting is much faster than mobile connect, also seeing decresed latency.

Question: I used to get at least 1Mbps on vodacoms speedtest, recently its deteriorated to 400-800Mbps, with my new huawei update and latest firmware I get 1.2Mbps).Could it be new firmware/software? Do you need specific firmware to get 3.6Mbps?

Guys, DO NOT load untested firmware on your E220!!

I managed to brick one today by loading a '7.2-capable' version on an E220, thinking I could always go back to the official version.

Created one sexy paperweight.......

I know MTN has a release on their site and we have a formal version but it's not published.

So don't load anything you did not get from Vodacom.

I tried the firmware you guys sugested but got a error message 'firmware not respond'. Got this firmware of the vodacom site so I assume that it has been tested.

Does the huawei Jan 2008 mobile partner software also upgrade your firmware to an untested one? I don't think so but maybe you could shed light on this.

I also tried VMC lite from the vodacom site and must say that mobile partner seems more stable and connects/disconnects much faster. It also seems from other threads that lots of users have trouble with VMC. What should we use then if the firmware and conection software that vodacom suggests is unstable?

So my questions still remain...
1. Best firmware for e220?
2. Do I need the latest firmware for 3.6Mbps speed?
3. Best connection software for the e220?
4. Will all of the above make a difference in throughput?

Try running the firmware update again with no SIM card inserted, it seems to initiate some kind of recovery mode.

I gave it to the data support guys and bolted! Was also a good excuse to get an E272, so I was in no way eager to fix it. :D

I'll pass your idea on, tx. If it works, (but I assume they would've tried it already), the usual beers are in order. :)
