Best free antivirus?

Regarding MSE, I wish it had the capability to allow offline update servers. It would be nice to have the updates coming through the net onto my media center and then the other PC's would update from that PC. I wanted to buy NOD32 business to do this but they force you to buy 5 licences as a minimum.

Since bandwidth is getting cheaper, that really is no longer a problem. You could also just configure a proxy if your more concerened about speed.

In my retail days I had that problem with all AVs - we would always track the problem down to the end user and the majority of such end users are so called "power-users" that know everything about PCs.

Technically the OP did not ask for an application :)
And installing linux will keep you virus free. And it is free.

I've failed when trying to Wine Office 2007 on Ubuntu 10.04, from documentation it doesn't seem compatible. Maybe you could PM me as to how you did it, don't want to hijack this thread?

he asked for "an antivirus" it's only the clueless linux fanbois who have not yet realised that everyone is sick of their useless comments that come into these threads and make those kind of comments. And by the way... they make the rest of us Linux users pretty sick too.
 
MSE FTW,

who knows windows better than microsoft?
Other AV's come close but i think MSE has the advantage in that it knows every detail of their OS.

Not agro at all. Just pointing out the uselessness of his suggestion... and commenting on the fact that some idiot has to make the same post everytime somebody asks that question. It does not put the mainstream linux users in a good light as it makes us all look like fools. It is not a helpful suggestion at all... just a very unfunny attempt at humour. We reserve the right to correct that false impression.

I started with avira until something slipped through (funny files appearing on flash drive) then tried AVG which found the virus/worm/whatever, it too failed with something else and now trying out norton. So far it works well but the updates are around 50-100 megs per month which on 3g is a little heavy IMHO.

I don't know, maybe i just visit dodgy sites.
