Hi all!

I've seen multiple threads like this but the ones I've seen are fairly old so here goes!
I'm looking for a gaming headset that'll work for both consoles and PC and that is under R1000. I read something about sound cards and having no knowledge in that field I didn't understand it, so here's my rig.

CPU: AMD FX 6300
Mobo: MSI 990FXA-GD65
RAM: Corsair XMS3 2x4GB
GPU: Sapphire HD7790
PSU: Corsair VS550

I don't have any sound card or adapters. Oh and I live in JHB so anything local would be great.
Thanks!

Looks good but seems too cheap. Maybe I could get something better closer to the R1000 limit? Also wouldn't real 7.1 be better than virtual? If so, is there any real 7.1 headset under R1000?

Oh one more thing... I need a mic. Something good for Skyping, gaming and recording.

Thanks again.

It seems cheap because it's on an insane special :)

Don't know how good the Razer Kraken Pro's are, but the Corsair Vengeance 1500 are great! I personally use the Corsair Vengeance 2100, which is the wireless version.

Do you know when the special will end? I'd like to do more research before I buy something. What about the Roccat Kaves, Logitech G53 or Corsair V2000? If all else fails, I'll just go for the Razer Tiamat :D

I'm in the market myself for a new gaming headset and am torn between these two, any thoughts/opinions on them?

and
Creative Tactic3D Rage (http://www.takealot.com/creative-tactic3d-rage-over-ear-headset-with-mic/PLID29706347)
Don't know how much you sweat on the ears during summer. But, I prefer cloth padding over leather padding when it comes to headsets. I found that 4hours of intense game play made my ears very sweaty with leather padding. Since I've been using cloth it made the world of difference.

Anybody have experience with the Roccat Kaves, Logitech G53, Corsair V2000 or the Playstation ones? They'll be used most of the time for heavy gaming on both consoles and PC.

Razor Kraken Pro's are the worst headphones ever. Works OK for gaming with mic disabled, but don't expect to use the mic with it. If you do your friends will crap you out every 5 seconds as the mic pics up everything coming out of the headphones causing feedback for the rest. This is a known issue with these headsets.

And audio quality is nothing to write home about, R400 cheap entry level Sennheisers beats it hands down.

So no Razer? Still have the Roccat Kave, Logitech G53, Corsair V2000 and Playstation.
The Corsair V2000 were replaced by the V2100 last year. I have experience with both and they are excellent! But, it's not within the R1000 budget.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you need a MOBO that supports 7.1 surround sound. Most headsets that I have seen with true 7.1 is over R1000. I use Razer Orca's, they are a decent pair of headphones (no mic).

I got the Sennheiser HD 558 for around R1,400 overseas. They're a little over budget but wow, simply the best I've had, and incredibly comfortable - could wear them all day! Very worth the extra coin if you can find it.

Stay away from Corsair Headsets. I've been through 2 pairs 1500 and 2000 and both cracked in exactly the same place.
