Best Gingerbread Custom ROMS

I have a htc desire, and i am currently running Leedroid (cant remember the version, but not the latest)

I want to move to a gingerbread rom, and would like to find out what the best rom is or maybe what everybody else is running at the moment.

My criteria would most probably stability and battery life. Not too worried about sense and the rest of it. Really dont want a rom which i need to upgrade every 2 weeks.

Hope you guys can help.
 
I was thinking of using Oxygen.

Whats all this business about choosing a kernal?

Also i thought i read it does not support A2SD+ is that correct?

I am using the default kernel, have not found the use in playing around with it, but you could save some battery life with it or overclock your phone and all of those lekker things! Thalamus kernels

Yeah you are right, it doesn't have A2SD+, but HERE IS THE dalvik to SDCard script that is basically the same for me, got 138mb left still. It is said to have some performance effects but nothing that I could spot.
 
You can just flash the Oxygen 2.0.1 straight after downloading it. Works like a charm. Just make sure that you follow the steps to enable Data2SD. I created a 512mb ext partition as well as a 64mb swap and still have 380mb free according to the phone.
 
i havent seen any steps for data2sd? Can you post a link?

are you using Oxygen? hows the battery life?
 
Currently I am on Cyanogen Mod 7 RC2. Loaded up yesterday and rather impressed. Everything is fast and smooth. I'm using the Home launcher ported from Sony Ericsson. The new keyboard is awesome. Generally just happy with the rom. Data2SD is really simple if you know how to use Recovery mode. I am downloading CM7 now as well, looking for something new, going to flash this and then check out this theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943423

EDIT: Okay, so I flashed CM7 now, and oh my goodness, can't belive I haven't tried it yet! This suites my needs way better than any other ROM! I love customizing everything from head to toe, and this allows me to do so without much manual work...

Loving this and recommend CyanogenMod to anybody who is like me, a customization freak! If your looking for something simplistic, then Oxygen is for you! Will keep testing and checking that everything runs good! :)

I decided to go with oxygen.

Happy with it for now. Will see how it goes.

Ya. Its pretty straight forward. I used Unrevoked as well.

It might be worth reading a few guides for confidence, and to pickup any possible hiccups that you might encounter. It could prevent elevated heart rates and shortness of breath during the process.
 
Just got CM7 installed.

Had a problem though which caused me some heartache. Constant bootloop because i installed the wrong google apps :D. Other than that its up n running and loving every second of it.
 
Has anyone found annoying bugs on their phones ?

I've got a few with CM7.

Changing to USB storage often resets the phone, doesnt work at all, or just crashes.
Gmail & YouTube apps dont work. Phone sometimes just freaks out and reboots.

any other errors you've come across?

Those errors dont look right. You may have to reflash that rom.

I am finding it difficult to establish what the differences are between CM7 and Oxygen - they seem to be almost the same except for some of the pre-installed apps. Anybody know if any other differences?

very strange indeed. I have been running CM7 RC2 since it launched and have had no reboots or crashes at all...and I use USB storage mode at least once a day. Did you clear the storage, and DALVIK before flashing the rom?
 
I didnt clear Dalvik, i did clear all the other Cache's & storage though.

Damn i really dont wanna flash and Re-do my entire set up again haha. :(

Ya its really giving me wierd things, my bottom bar disapeared using honeycomb theme. my weather app always defaults to london.
 
Yeah I haven't had problems with CM7 either, I do get the reboots sometimes but that is caused by my battery overheating because of water damage...
