Hey

I want to move all my insurance into one, comprehensive package. So far i got a quote from iwyze [The Mutual and Federal insurance], and its not looking too bad.

What other insurance companies are worth looking at?

All of them, then play them off against each other. Beware of "lowest premiums" which usually means higher or additional excesses.
Or they'll go to great lengths to avoid paying claims. Had that experience with one of the biggest in South Africa.

Stay away from anything auto and general.

Anyone got a list of auto and general rebranded companies?

Working through a broker and not only be cheaper but give you better results - good brokers can easily threaten an insurance company to move all his clients if the insurance guys give bad service.

Insurance question:

Is it common practice to reduce a customer's insurance premium annually in line with the reduction in value of the vehicle?

Outsurance did it for us ... and Dialdirect refuses to do so, because they allege that the increase in fees by e.g. panelbeaters (or whoever else would be fixing vehicles) forces them to increase their premiums as well. WTH?

I'd say yes for cars. My brokers office calls me once a year to do this of our cars. We are with M&F. That reasoning from DialDirect doesn't make sense to me. Reducing the insured value must reduce the premium. The fee increase for whatever reasons is a completely separate issue.

Re the OT: I've never had any issues with an M&F claim. I've been with a few insurers in the past and M&F have been by far the best but also not always the cheapest.

Honestly don't go through any insurance company that says they cut out the middleman, firstly I've had far better service from a broker then I ever had with Dialdirect or A&G with regards to everything going through a broker, they are generally cheaper and get you better packages then the one's that are always advertising. For example at the beginning of the year I was curious to see what other insurance companies would give me, yes the premium was R100 less but the excess was R3000 on average while my broker got me excess waiver with car hire which yes is R100 more but I get more value out of it.

try santam as well, you can go directly through them, and not a through a broker...they gave me a decent quote on my car
so try santam direct

their excess on car insurance is set at 2,5k for everyone

stay away from Budget. I waited 8 months for them to settle a claim after their client hit my car. Retards.

Not if you go with Santam Topexec insurance then the excess is waivered, also be careful with Santam they do have tendencies to cancel policies without letting you know, check hellopeter.

iWyze is a new player in the insurance industry but have good backing of Mutual and Federal, as you mentioned. Reports I have seen indicate they're developing a good reputation and showing good growth too, so it seems nothing wrong there.

It never hurts to look around, but I wouldn't take an insurance policy on price alone. The dangers usually hide in the small print where punitive excesses and/or restrictions could come back to bite you need the cover most. A flashy product can often be just that, flashy.

I prefer companies who have been around a while and have developed a good reputation for paying claims.

No, it's not common at all. There are pros and cons to this. Personally, I tend to agree with the companies who adjust the values annually.

Also, on what basis does Outsurance set the value? How do they know the condition, mileage and extras of your car? These are all factors which influence the value of your car. So my concern would be whether I would given a fair deal if the car was stolen and the insurer doesn't know my car.

You or your broker should be regularly reviewing the value of your car (and house and contents too for that matter) ... and no less than once a year.

I am insured with Virgin Money. Their service so far has been great, and their premium very reasonable. Underwritten by Dial Direct UK. Haven't heard anything bad from them, so giving them a chance. Did a hellopeter search once, and although there were some complaints, nothing major.

One thread and two spammers already... imagine what would happen to a thread about viagra/cialis or usa green cards.

I'm switching to Santam next week. Spoke to my broker and he organised my current premium with Outsurance to drop from R970 p/m (vehicle only) to R670 p/m (vehicle + R100k household). I had a car insured with Santam ages ago and wrote it off 2 months after starting my policy. They paid out issue-free.
