I need help please, both my sons will be staying in a flat and studying in Stellenbosch from next year (each got a laptop and cellphone). I need to know what is the most cost effective option regarding connecting to the internet and data options.

Either DSL or fibre, preferably fibre if it's available in the area..

What he said, or look at Rain Uncapped for R250 a month (uncapped from 23:00 till 18:00 the next day). Between 18:00 and 23:00 it will cost you R50 a gig though.

Preferrably fibre, since they would probably stream a lot of Youtube and Netflix (and yes, they will) so you would preferably want fibre since it is uncapped.

Alternatively, look at a decent fixed-lte option which is capped but much easier to get set up if they are renting a place. I'd recommend either Telkom or MTN (preferable) through Axxess or Afrihost with a MINIMUM of 100GB+100GB, preferably the 150+150GB for two persons.

I finished studying last year and streamed a lot both as a cheap form of entertainment on a student budget, but also just as much for studying purposes.

Don't think it is suitable/viable for a student though, who need internet access 24/7...

Well, it's better than nothing at a good price. I too wanted to add they could perhaps just get a second sim with 100+100GB or 150+150 (like you mentioned) in conjunction with a Rain sim. We don't know their usage patterns so it could potentially work. Either way, just a suggestion...

Most of the flats have fibre connected or connect to a WISP, just ask around what other students are using in the building.
