I currently have a 2/28GB IS account aswell as a 3/30GB Telkom shaped account. I am looking for an unshaped account for International gaming and VOIP.

My question is are there ISPs out there selling 1GB accounts that don't hardcap on 1GB? So will I be able to get 10%-40% more as on DO3?

Some local bandwidth included with that will also be a bonus. I looked on Axxess and webafrica's sites but couldn't get any details on the hardcap.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: I posted this thread in the wrong forum, could a moderator please move it. kthx :)

No other isp gives extra bandwidth away like telkom. Also if it's not hard capped they charge you per meg. If not it's dial up speed, which isn't suited to what you want you want anyway.

There's no cheap shortcuts to what you want.

Best bet is to have a look at Axxes' semi shaped IS accounts. They are unshaped after hours.

no idea about best, but its sure as hell not Axxess...

i have switched from their unshaped to telkom shaped and the shaped through telkom is a hell of a lot more stable and better for online gaming than my axxess unshaped ever was. and latency only about 100ms more on telkom shaped than axxxess unshaped

I'm just pessimistic about IS's international latency.

R 99 Axxess 1GB Unshaped
R 125 Webafrica 1GB Unshaped

Which is better and why the R 25 difference you think?

LOL.

That was most likely because you had the IS Satellite unshaped account. Axxess has nothing to with it. They are just resellers. Just like webafrica and any other isp you care to name.

The semi shaped Axxess accounts are IS fibre accounts. Performance close to saix unshaped.

If you search the forums some guys did some VERY thorough testing. Like I said before. The semi shaped is fibre based not satellite based.

Anyway. According to all the testing the semi shaped account performed in between saix unshaped and saix shaped. Closer to saix unshaped.

That R99 is for Saix unshaped. That R125 is saix unshaped.

The semi shaped accounts are unshaped from 8pm-8am and shaped from 8am-8pm weekdays.

So considering I work during office hours I'd take the semishaped anyday.

Have you taken a look at Imaginet's semi-shaped caps? 1GB goes for R71, 3GB for R191 and 5GB for R318.

I've signed up with WebAfrica (still waiting for ADSL line activation from Telkom). I want it for gaming.
The reason I chose them is:
a) because the SAIX link apparently has the lowest latency.
b) the Webafrica account allows you the use either SAIX or Verizon (or both)

i find that verizon are better... anyways that option is great of you really need 24.7 unshaped access with the option of either saix or verizon.

for me and rest that use it after hours and weekends; semi unshaped is by far better and looking at R72 per gig which is also prepaid really not a bad deal from nexusISP.

Yeah I use both Axxess (IS fibre) semi-shaped and WA (saix) shaped and the saix account is way more stable, even with the higher latency. SAIX unshaped is the way to go.

So IS semi-shaped has better latency in your experience than SAIX unshaped?

If this is true, the semi-shaped seems to be a bargain.

imho, tryout both and see what is the best one for you; sometimes the one is better than the other dependent on how you are integrated into the grid.

Actually, you're not comparing apples with apples.

Unused data is carried over on Axxess Prepaid (R119), but not on Axxess Basic (R99).

Webafrica Prepaid (R126) also carries over.

So the diffs is really only R6, but WA does give you multi-realm (SAIX and/or Verizon)

IS semi-shaped (during unshaped hours) is about the same as SAIX unshaped (maybe SAIX just pips it). But I've still experienced stability issues on IS, especially during shaped time, so if you do some gaming, heavy browsing etc in the daytime I suggest you get 2 accounts:

IS semi for evening and SAIX shaped for the day. That's the best combo I think. and you'll save R2

It definitely is a bargain as long as you only use the IS semi during unshaped hours.
