Best knife sharpener

I have the E5 and I’m very happy with it.

I don’t have the upgrade kit so the compromise was needing to accept the preset angle that not necessarily all your knifes will have and therefore will re-edge those but I still feel that’s a better job than I would ever do by hand.

I do the full run through about once a month and just use the ceramic rod in between and it’s worked very well.

The few cheap and nasty knives I still have I also ran through as my wife uses them so as not to get in trouble about my knives and she proceeded to cut slots in the one counter top…I only discovered she’s been cutting right on it forever because they were so blunt.

I have one old knife that was quite badly pitted due to bad care in my youth and managed to get it almost back to perfect after subsequent sessions through the E5.

Probably won’t bother with the upgrade kit.
You are undoubtedly MyBB's Knife Nazi.

More a case of her being too lazy to hand wash and dry them immediately so rather uses the cheap **** and plonks it in the dishwasher.
You should consider nuturing and training her, and helping her to develop an understanding. Also, buy better quality knives that can take the pounding of a dishwasher.

Life's too short to have an unhappy wife that you treat like an invalid. No knife , no matter how much quality, is worth it.

Oh she knows quite well how it’s meant to work, just prefers not to most of the time.

Nothing unhappy about it.

Dishwashers are a big no no for any knife.

Mk.2 was on special at binuns got that. Thanks all

Wil pop feedback later

I've been using this for years for my Global, and other knives, you can order replacement wheels as well.
Just no.....

Thanks guys will work through the suggestions.

Anyone have one of these?

If you get one of these get the Ken Onion edition.

Just got the mk. 2 version.

Finished 7 knives also stropped super happy with results. Finally managed to get a great edge on two I had issues with in the past.

These are scary sharp

Nice sharpener... But only 2 angle settings is a bummer. Asian knifes are normally 15 deg. European at 18 deg.
20 and 25 are more for the US outdoor bushcraft type.

Assume they should have a model for European angle?

I am happy with my Warthog. Quick and easy. Not sure about it being the best. But it works for me and the wife.

I have ( now) three of the previous version of the Warthog.

One I gave my mom, set for normal kitchen knives, one for my hunting knives, and one I use for my meat knives, all set for the best angles for each application.

The best investment I ever made.

They have a Ken Onion model it's got all the other angles, it's around 4k.

Look I'm happy to pay 2k for the mk.2 model and put a razor sharp edge on my baccarat and wustof knives quickly when I need to.

Look I know it's not ideal having a 20 deg in European edges but I don't mind sharpening a little more if necessary. Not a chef just a home cook.

Still better than they were yesterday.

It's razor sharp, shaves arm hair, shaves paper and instantly bites into finger nail.

The knives are 1 to 2k at most. It's acceptable for me.

Saw the Ken Onion model price. Eish!

Still feeling the space in my pocket for the panels. So maybe another time.

A question for those who have the warthog - did you also buy the medium and fine stones or just a fine stone? What would you recommend for standard kitchen knives?

The warthog is hugely popular and a great piece of kit, will suffice for the sharpening 80-90% of all regular kitchen knives. The reason I went for the Spyderco Sharpmaker is because it allows me freedom to sharpen non-conventional blades, like the Cold Steel Counter-Tac, which has two different sides to the blade.

Same with a Besh Wedge, with the warthog it would be impossible.
