I have parents with...trust issues...

They won't spend some R20 000 on something online and then wait for it to be delivered.

I on the other hand have no issues with it but it's not up to me.

Most of these stores have a pick up option as well

I am seriously considering the
ASUS ROG G552 because it's something in my price range, it's got and i7 processor, 16 Gb of ram, 1 Tb storage and I think a graphics card that is good enough for what I am doing. It's also available at incredible connection so it's perfect for me.

If anybody has any reason to not buy this laptop please tell me. Give me your honest opinion about what you think about it and whether I should go for it or not.

Forget the 1Tb of storage. For EGD you don't need that much. Rather get a 256GB, or if you have the money, a 500GB SSD. Speed is worth more that capacity.

Are you sure you are going to use Autocad in school, and not Turbocad? My one kid did, and the other is doing EGD and both use/d Turbocad. Reasoning I think is that Turbocad has a better and cheaper student program. If Turbocad, you don't need that high a spec to actually run it. I have two 7years+ old laptops at home both running Turbocad. If Autocad, you will need better, as listed by other posters.

My #1 tip here is SSD. Cheapest performance spec/upgrade.

I'm definitely using AutoCad. We were told the specs needed by our teachers.

I am aware that SSD's are way better the. HDD's but the price is a bit much and I'd rather have more space for movies, games and pictures. However I will be saving up and when I have the money I will upgrade to an SSD.

I'm not too sure but I think the Asus ROG G552 has a removable back cover that gives you easy access to ram and storage. So I should be able to upgrade it myself right?

Fine. As for specs, do not believe the teachers. Go on the Autocad website and check there what the minimum specs are. I was also told what the teacher specs are for my daughter at OW. Turns out Adobe have different specs to teachers..

You can put an OS, Autocad and some games on a 256GB SSD with space to spare. Compromising speed for space on your main HDD is stupid. Rather get an external USB HDD for your movies and music. They need not be on your main HDD and you will not know the difference in playback.

Put SSD in. You will not regret it.

An i5 would be fine too.

Just get lots of RAM and decent discrete graphics.

Autodesk products are free for students. Really nice of them.

Gigabyte as always , I like their storage expansion caddy that gives you the liberty to store everything in your laptop.
Not even mention the performance. Always top notch.
