Best LCD/Plasma TV for DSTV HD?

Yeah yeah yeah....

The grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side ;-)

I think I'm going to wait a bit to see what happens to the LCD prices in a month or two's time.

Sammy LA40A550

I got a good deal on a LA40A550 yesterday - R12,000.00. Kept bugging the guy to give me more and more discount. It's my 3rd LCD TV I've bought from him. So guys, it is possible to get a good deal out there!

I'm a firm believer that your LCD/Plasma will only ever be as good as your supporting equipment. That's why DSTV SD looks so bad.

Using a bad DVD player will also yield bad results. I'm looking at an upscaling dvd player, Sony DVP-NS708HP.

Allowing your supporting equipment to do most of the work (Processing etc) it is not necessary for the TV set engines to works so hard, and in this way you could get away with a slightly inferior LCD/Plasma set. I have a media center PC running on my Sinotech 42" LCD, and the display is absolutly awsome. Downloaded some full HD demo movies.

The next step will be a DSTV HD decoder, time to toss the c@ppy SD decoder.

Don't buy SONY !

They make excellent product, but after sales service is handled my Mastercare (pronounced Disastercare). They have never been able to correctly repair any Sony Product I have ever purchased (AV Amp - in for 9 months, VCR - went back 6 times, Camcorder - in for 8 months, CD Player - went back 5 times - still not working). I finally gave up and now purchase other brands.

Rent a TV for a couple of weeks. After that you will not need that as you will cancell your HD from HDTV as there is really nothing to watch or the stuff you would like to watch you will miss due a constant faulty EPG on the HD channel.

Johanhs : that is entirely your opinion, I have HD Dstv.... yes there are lots of repeats and the EPG is wrong sometimes BUT the content on the channel is decent and the quality is amazing.
