Best LCD/Plasma TV for DSTV HD?

thewusman, how do I tell whether a Sammy is Series 5, 6 or 7. I went to the Samsung ZA site and I'm not sure how to differentiate between the different sets.

Also, where can I read some proper reviews for these new Sammys, Google doesn't help much.

So now here's a question for the LCD guru's out there ... what difference does 100Hz technology make for LCD panels ?

I'm struggling to find a good answer.

100Hz technology or "Motionflow" or suchlike scans the image at twice the rate of the standard. The better systems (Sony & Samsung for e.g.) create a new interpolated frame between the standard frames in order to smooth motion. This clarifies the image and reduces ghosting on fast moving footage.

i.e. A 50Hz 1080i frame would have the following in 1/25th of a second:
{Field A ; Field B}
At 100Hz there would be two frames and we would have the following:
{Field B+ A; Field A; Field A+B; Field B} (Where B is from the previous Frame)

Bump, what's the best brick and mortar shop that sells Samsung and Pioneer plasmas?

I need to see the thing in person and play round with it a bit before I can buy it.

New World in Menlyn, Hirsch in Centurion, Fotocats @ Brooklyn Mall?

If you want to drive to Jo'burg - Cats Digital or Digital Experience.

The LAxA550 is the series 5 (where x is the size of the screen, eg. 40 as in LA40A550)

The series 6 is LAxA610 or LAxA650.

Samsung naming conventions are seriously buggered .... took me ages to figure them all apart.

What amazes me is that shops are still selling the older Full HD sets for way over R20k .... with the series 5 coming in at a steal compared to these.:)

Do you mind if I ask you to post some pics of your Sammy with DStv and any HD content or Xbox 360?

Please. :)

Also, where'd you buy yours? Which Series?

(lots of questions, I'm sorry)

No worries .... (canon camera battery charging will try tomorrow to post)

I got the series 5 LA40A550 from Makro at launch on special for R15999 which is a good price.

Currently DionWired have the same special (I think - just check) on the series 5 40 and 46inch (R19 999) - they're both owned by MassMart so prices should be similar. Makro haven't stocked them since the launch - curiously.

From 3m away - DSTV (Mnet and movie channels) look like DVD's.

XBOX 360 and Vista media center through the Xbox extender look stunning.

Willl grab some pics for you.

Only downside to the Sammy is it's a dust magnet of note. Smooth shiny plastic cabinet and Jo'burg winter plus some sort of static charge build-up make dust collect to this thing like nothing I've seen before. Heck, they even include a soft cleaning cloth with it .... gets wiped every second day.:(

A word of advice. Wait two-three weeks before buying. There will be some awesome deals coming soon. Especially from Makro.

I cannot say... but it is their birthday in August...
Ummmm OK, but do you know for a FACT that they're gonna have something good on special because I'm under pressure to pull the trigger now and get one. I need to know if I should hold out for a few days/weeks longer.

LOL @ "from 3 meters away"

and on a rollercoaster people look like ants.

Actually they look like Blue Ray Discs ...lol.

What was I thinking.

I've just had my eyes tested .... new glasses will make everything look like magnified mpeg artifacts. Can't wait...

It is monochoice after all. They are the archaeologists of the TV world. Providing artefacts to millions in one go.
