Best MB/Processor

Hi guys! I need a very good MB/Processor for a new PC I want to assemble. Basically it'll be an "everything" machine - from gaming, to graphics editing (video editing, image editing, 3D simulations), and would most likely be running a couple of Virtual machines! Any ideas?
 
Well... If you're not on a tight budget best choice would probably be to go with a X58 mobo and one of the new Intel i7 CPU's... Those 2 alone will cost you about R9000
 
Budget? If you have no budget well then just get the fastest and most expensive everything
 
Q6600 + decent p35p/45 board, Gigabyte DS3L, Asus P5Q etc. and OC to 3GHZ.
 
Budget is not too tight - but not too flexible as well. Maybe about 6K or so would be reasonable. Thanks for the ideas so far, will have a look at those.;)

Well then q6600 and above it is, you'll need the 4 cores for what you want to use it for.
 
6K for mbo/cpu only geez
Well then get the Core i7-920 - R4000
Donno about the boards though :/ they're expensive R3500(cheapest i saw) :eek:... maybe wait a month or two till the prices on the boards drop

Phenom II(when pricing becomes available guess(R3000-3500) & decent R1000-R1500 am2 board?

I would say rather not get i7 because you will have to fork out for DDR3 ram still.

Well, I guess if I get a good MB/CPU then I'm sorted - the rest are relatively cheap. Just a quick question, isn't it much better to get a very good VGA card and an average MB/CPU? Seeing as most of the stuff are more graphic intensive than processor intensive really?:confused:

Yes that's right rather spend that money on a GPU IMO. I had a 4850 with an e2160 and I could play anything full speed.
 
video editing, image editing, 3D simulations all love a fast cpu (quad) and do not involve gpu, you have to decide what you want but 6k is peanuts for a gaming/graphic design orientated machine

yes I agree with QX6700RULZ, as nowadays, R6k is pretty much a decent work pc lol... you going to have to spend about R10k to get a machine thats good that the applications you want it to do... now, you could do them on a R6k system, but it would be like watching paint dry.... I hate to say it man, but that's just the way things are going... and if you want to go quad core then use the Q8200 or Q9300 as they are fast, but also have newer instruction sets (which the Q6600 lacks) which would mean that you will see an improvement in performance when the programs you use start to use the instructions (in a year or so).

but hey, it's your money, and I guess for that kind of money you could get:
amd HD4670

250gig hdd

4gig of ddr800 ram

mobo

cpu:Q8200

and all you need then is a chase

which is about R6600 for a complete system... not to bad hey :D
 
I got the impression that he had allocated 6k for the cpu/mobo alone, meaning the whole PC would be more expensive. if you only have 6k for the whole PC it's a different story. Like rather than putting 1k towards a GPU, take 1 away from the cpu/mobo and spend R2000 on a GPU.
 
Asus P5Q deluxe as a mobo (over clocks to the MAX)
E8500 Core2Duo or Quad(whatever you have left in the budget)

This combo should hold its own for a while...
