The SA version is available on the US iTunes App Store. I think it cost $69 if I remember correctly.
Navigon is widely reported as the better app.
That being said, I only used the TomTom app for a day or two after downloading it, and haven't used it since

Using TomTom with traffic and am happy with it. Very configurable. I have not tried others though.

ya they charged me about R400 for version 1.8
i also heard navigon is better but i haven't needed to serach for a better app as yet as tom tom works for me so far

TomTom is phenomenal, works like a charm everytime and worth every cent imho unless you willing to go the jb route, even better :)

I can definitely vouch for Tom Tom on the iphone 4. I bought it for R300 odd before I went the jb route and I'm still not even slightly upset about it.

I recently did a lot of research deciding between TomTom and Navigon. In the end there wasn't a clear winner - Navigon seemingly started well, but TomTom caught up, so both are very much on the same level. So I went for the cheaper one - TomTom for $59.99 vs Navigon $79.99.

The TomTom app is brilliant, in many ways it surpasses my dedicated Garmin Nuvi (which is now shelved for long road trips...).

using Navigon here - works perfectly and love the POI search tool

Used the Tom Tom once or twice. (if you live in Durban you don't need a navigator) Works perfectly.

The only South Africa GPS app I've use was Waze, which is cool since it's free. Obviously doesn't have nearly as many roads as TomTom/Navigon/etc but it's community driven so if you dig that vibe you can help contribute.

In the UK I used Navigon, which worked really well, but not sure how good their SA maps are.

TomTom is definitely worth it. I've tried all of the free ones, and they end up being more hassle, and you end up spending more than the $59.99 in your time invested in getting the damned things to work! The Google local search on TomTom is one of its best features! All in needs to do is integrate with my Google maps POIs and I'll be happy.

I am using navfree south africa, it is free and i dont see anything missing , so not complaining yet.

Make sure to get the south african version of it, i see there is a different one per country.
