Best netbook buys

Why does this article only mention the Asus EEE 701 range? Those are old. The newer ones feature better processors, bigger screens and more storage.

Or the flybook ranges that have been around longer than the Asus EEE pc's, even if they are rediculously priced.

I was about to post the same thing.

You can get a 900 EEEPC:
1.6Ghz Intel Atom
1GB RAM
16GB
8.9"

For $379.

Not to mention theres a 1000 EEEPC series out as well.
And to be frank ,its not about storage space. These Netbooks are suupposed to be 2nd PC's or lower class 1st PCs anyways.

BTW busy typing this on my 700 EEEPC :)

Uhm... what about the MSI Wind (aka Proline U100 in SA)???? It should be right at the top of the list!

this article doesnt help much when for some items no local pricing is available. Specs are nothing without an indication of price

A lot of these netbooks are cutting it fine in terms of pricing compared to standard laptops (which are available from ~ R5000). The main reason is because of the SSD.

Yup i agree there.. if i have to choose i'd go for those low end std ones which are pretty good too sometimes. hdd space doesn't need to be bigger than about 15-25?GB i think because as long as the OS can fit you can always get a usb 250-500 GB hdd to use when u at a power outlet for those 'other' non-essential files.

so where can you buy the proline u100? what shops sell it?

and has anyone seen the umpc that they are selling at certain furniture stores (the name eludes me currently) which are really underpowered... but then again, if it is a CHEAP 2nd pc its not bad (from what i can remember)

edit: is the dell available in SA?

netbook advice

i want to buy a netbook for less than R4000 but it needs to have Windows (i use my cell as a modem with vodacom prepaid data bundles). Do well-known retailers sell netbooks? Does Asus' 700 W come with Windows?

A Dell reseller told me today that the Mini 9 Notebook is not available in SA yet and that at this stage & that they don't know when it will arrive in SA...
