Well at last I got the S4. I used TomTom for iPhone for a long time and very happy with it. I installed Sygic when I got the S4 for the 7 day trial and doesn't look too bad. Half the price of tomtom for android too.

What are the options I have for offline navigation? I read the Android version of TomTom isn't that great so I don't really want to spend that much if it isn't very good.

How does Garmin/Navigon compare for South Africa?

Thanks

Are you driving to a lot of different places or just one city?

I need it for the whole of South Africa, why do you ask?

Google Maps can save maps for offline use, but since you need it for the whole South Africa, Sygic is the best.

why not just try Navigon out, it's free for Samsung owners

Garmin Navigon on the Note 2 is schit. Very basic, and you have to pay for updates, traffic info, speed cameras and basically anything and everything. Route66 is pretty good. I enjoyed it. Especially their function that uses your camera and overlays directions onto the actual road you're travelling on...

It's a pity Samsung isn't bundling an offline navigation app on all the premium phones. The S2 had it and so did the N2. Would be cool if they offered something for the S4 and N3.

Drive and Walk is on of the most used apps on my S2.

Oh and there's a heads up display navigation system called Navier that is great. Not offline but works really well in my car to display the navigation on my windscreen...

Try Navfree, it only requires to be online when doing a search after that you can use it offline and the maps are installed on the phone. It is also free :D

It is also k@k. Adds all over the screen all the time. I downloaded it and it couldn't find my street in Brackenfell. WTF?

I use Google Maps. Came free with my Note II and works like a charm.

That's exactly how google maps works as well. Search for free, let it start navigation then switch off data and it does its thing...
