Im pretty sure this has been posted so excuse my ignorence. If there is thread then please post link as Im not too good with the forum search tool.

Im looking to hook up ADSL. It will be 4meg line, but now im contemplating about a ISP.

Last year I was with Telkom Uncapped and I must say it was smooth sailing... Latency, DL Speed all the good things just worked as it should.
Local gaming servers was constant between 20-40ping. Youtube though was abit stuttery even though i was on a 10meg line.

Now im just wondering if I might get something similar but for a bit less Rands..

Capped accounts will also be an option...

Any ideas?

This depends on your location and where the servers are hosted in SA. To take ADSL as an example, Mweb is good in Cape Town. IS (and their resellers) are the best on average, locally and internationally, obviously ISP (and Telkom) conditions apply. Yah, ask the question to people living in your area or region and what ISP suites them optimally…

Like Fulcrum29 said it depends on your area but for me Web Africa has been the bets they will go that extra mile for you. Online gaming is very good with them and can't complain about downloading although there FUP stat system is kind of irritating. If you work from 8-5 there should be no problem.

If you are in Cape Town, just make sure that your line goes through Cape Town to international servers.
If you are in Johannesburg, look for one that terminates in Durban for the lowest pings, most of the time.

What is your budget?

Yup - this is how our international connections operate as well for best international latency.

I live in Uitenhage and i have a 4meg uncapped account with telkom. I do quite a bit of online gaming and the gaming is not bad, except for the fact that i am experiencing packet loss.

Ive had the best speed/lowest latency on Crystal web.

Thanks. Am thinking to give these crystal web guys a go... only hearing good things...
Which area in Uitenhage do you stay, wherabouts are the exchanges in Uitenhage? Is there any area in Uitenhage that is capable of 10meg or VDSL?

Well im also thinking of changing to them, considering all the good comments I've read about them.

I live in Vanes Estate and recently wanted to upgrade to 10meg, so i had a chat to a telkom tech that i personally know and he said, although our exchanges is 10meg capable the chances that you'll be able to reach anything near 10meg on you're line is really slim or almost impossible since our copper is in a bad state of affairs. He actually said rather stick to 4meg, cause you will just be wasting money on a 10meg line.

I do not know if any of our exchanges supports VDSL.

And im also not sure of how many exchanges we have here. The only thing i do know is theres 2 green and blue boxes quite close to our house ( which i assume is an exchange ).

I saw telkom installing fibre at our work today in high street/ caledon street.
