I'm helping a friend who has a late 2009 13 MacBook Pro, 2 GB RAM, 256 GB hard drive, can't remember the processor spec, it's still running OSX 10.7 Lion.
As is, the machine still works perfectly for her needs which is basically web browsing, listening to music, watching movies and light photo editing, so upgrading the components won't be necessary. The techie in me want to update the OS though and I'm wondering how new I can go. El Cap is still officially supported, but I personally never liked it, plus I'm sure it will be stretching the limits of this machine. I'm thinking more towards going with 10.8 or 10.9, anyone with personal experience running a older MacBook Pro on one of those or even newer? Personally I liked 10.10 quite a lot, I found it very solid, but it also might be somewhat of a stretch.
