Just thought I'd create a thread because these are vital items to have. I've had a fair share of them over the years and many falsely advertise their capacity and these should be exposed. Some brands are also generally better investments than others.

The good brands I've had are

1. Swiss Mobile. I have a 20 000 mah one from 2019 which I dropped countless times and it still works wth batteries still working decently for its age and condition.

2. Superfly. The 20 000 mah ones are not always ideal and it's good to invest in smaller ones for day trips etc. Much easier on the pocket and it attracts less attention as well. I've had a Superfly 12 000 mah since early 2020 which also still works decently and just ordered another today to keep in the house.

Bad.

Dixon. I actually got one from Cash Crusaders in January and it gave in about a week or two after only a few months.

Generally, a decent 20 000 mah one will cost over R500 unless you are lucky by finding a special etc.

As a general rule, if the prices are too good to be true, stay away. I had a few in my earlier days of powerbank ownership which worked once or twice when I thought I was getting a bargain.

I really like the Romoss Zeus powerbanks.
My adata 20000mah powerbank started off ok but average.

I've heard good things about the Romoss as well.

I had the Adata 20 000 mah for a few months between late 2018-2019 and the experience was not the best. The LCD numbers went bonkers after a while. It went from 1-100% in a few minutes but batteries were working okay. It was just at 2% for an eternity before it died.

The charging port eventually broke but that may have been my fault through pulling.

Used a Swiss Mobile 12mAh (Takealot link) and a Romoss Polymoss 10 Air (Takealot link) powerbank for last 5 years and the Swiss Mobile one has been losing it's charge very quickly lately but the Romoss one still performs the same.

Good: Romoss Polymoss 10 Air

Bad: Swiss Mobile Gear 12mAh

I need a replacement power bank as my Rosmoss Ares 20 is dying at a rapid pace. Last week I noticed it charging quite quickly to full charge and over the weekend I noticed it's bloated and when pressure is applied the screen go active.
I need to dispose of this ticking time bomb soon.
Any other brand recommendations or should I stick with Rosmoss?

I am using a Belkin BoostCharge 20k power bank.
It has a capacity of 74Wh and can fast charge my laptop through USB PD

I bring it with me every day to university and it gets my cellphone and laptop through a full day of usage.

I have had one of these for 2 years now and its a solid backup.
And it has a 43% discount on Takealot.
