Best protein powder in SA

You can use it as a meal replacement for weight control. Obviously not all your meals. People do not need 3 full meals a day.

Note the

In my post.
Sure, but you're comparing protein powder with chicken and meat, which can be a complete meal, especially if you eat it with the fat that nature intended.

The oke wants a protein boost for body definition hence the comparison.

Buy what you can afford, the differences from products are small and none of the options available are harmful
Its nice to use the premium international products but if you dont need it or it is out of the budget the local options are just as good

Hey everyone, I am looking for recommendations for an affordable but trustworthy brand to buy whey protein from.
I am still a student so looking for the best bang for my buck.
I have heard some brands is not very honest with what you receive in your protein powder.
Any suggestions?

Protein powder is cheaper than chicken etc if you use it as a meal replacement. You looking at R400 for 40 servings give or take. That's like R10 a meal.

Whats important is to count the macros.

I believe you looking at 0.6g - 1g per kg body weight.

All of them do the same thing so just pick one that tastes nice

I disagree it is cheaper.
Bulk chicken breasts will cost less than R10 per breast (Im not in SA any more but it was fairly easy to get below this number when I left) and are absorbed slower which should keep you feeling fuller for longer than protein powder.
In general chicken breasts have a high protein count with zero carbs so unless you get an extremely good and possibly expensive shake, you are putting extra calories into your body that is not protein.

Some shakes have extra stuff in them, these may be positive or negative depending on the brand and you need to carefully pick what you are looking for and what.
Shakes are convenient, that is a bonus, but I might argue that having JUST the shake, you are likely to feel hungry very quickly and most people add items to the shakes to make it taste better and feel more full. So, the convenience factor starts dropping, the cost goes up and you need to be more careful with tracking what you are putting in.

If you are eating 2 or 3 meals a day, the likelihood of having protein on them I would say is in the higher percentile. Why not just have the protein in them instead of having a shake at one point and then either not having protein in the other meals or (the more likely) you will have protein in the other meals and are getting too much protein?

For definition? His best bet is losing body fat.

Dudes with low body fat, look yoked, but under 10% you feel like dogs-t.

Unless OP is looking to climb on a stage and flex his glutes... under 15% bodyfat is not really advisable.

And if he wants more muscle?

Fast? A needle filled with anabolics, and a 45 minute session at his local gym 6 times a week. (Results in 1.5 years, injections once a week, every week)

Slow? A plate filled with protein, fibre and carbs, and a 1h30 minute session at the gym 3/4 times a week. (Results in 5 years, strict diet, training and sleep routine)

Chocolate flavour ones do satisfy it.
Coudlnt agree more.

My last haul when Dischem had them on special 6 months supply. Was around R2k for 5.4kg

But you best believe I have worked my ass off this year!

I toss one scoop of protein powder, 200ml milk, teaspoon peanut butter, 5g creatine handful of blueberries and frozen banana. This is to supplement my typically healthy meals for the day. Shake is delicious and weight is stable after weightloss above. I am likely going to push an extra full body work out during the week so 5 days fullbody workouts usually 600-800 calories burnt per session and mondays I have an hour pilates class. Best addition to my full body work outs.

not 100% but more metrics to track

I once asked Dischem if they stock it and the guy said Dischem don't sell Nutritech because it was independantly tested and falsely advertised what it contains.
One of the supplement "reps"? I heard a similar story a decade ago, except the person referred to USN. I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

Seriously? I really thought 13-14% is still healthy. I'm always hovering around 15-16 wanting to be 14%.

You can be "healthy" at 18% or 20%. I would say things like visceral fat, cholesterol and items in those terms should be considered when determining health.

15% or so is a pretty good fat %. You can generally eat a little unhealthy, you look pretty damn good and you aren't sacrificing huge amounts in the process. I can stay around there pretty comfortably and be a happy person whilst still being strong and aesthetic.

Dropping to 12% I have to make sacrifice. My diet sharpens up quite a bit and although I am not totally unhappy, it is not the best space for me. I've been below 10%, and it was a miserable, awful experience. I generally didnt feel good, I struggled in the gym, I was hungry and moody. I also found it hard to keep the muscle on at that stage and all round, hated it. I looked good for sure, but everything else was awful.
